RPG Maker Forums

You've probably come to this topic, wondering what kind of name NecroTricks is. Well, I'll keep you until the end, friend! You have to see the rest to figure out the title!

Genres: RPG, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Fantasy (Science-Fantasy)

Rating and Themes: 13+, for mild language and small uses of blood.

By the way, I cannot include any screenshots, which really stinks. I just rewrote the whole plot, began polishing the plot, and I recently moved up to MV, so I am so sorry for my lack of screenshots. However, I can definitely show off some sprites and display what the game is about. Credit for the tilesets [the ones displayed with the sprites], goes to a developer on my team.

Synopsis

NecroTricks is a slightly outlandish, science-fantasy RPG crawling with dorky characters, puns, and even some memes. It takes place on a distant planet, which is in its Recorded Year 4000's. This planet does not just have your typical humans and animals, but it is also home to mythical creatures like fairies, dragons, and cloud crawlers.

The Protagonist is a young, fairy boy named Dexter, who has been implemented with robot parts due to a hereditary disease. He and his brother, Shamrock had just been kicked out of their children's homeless shelter. Now, why would anyone do such a horrible thing?

Well, because they were made differently. They're part of a group of oppressed creatures, the Deities, the only creatures that can learn kinesis.

Due to being shunned, they must seek shelter in the Sunshine Archipelago, an island chain only inhabited by Deities. The Deities created rules to never let anyone out, due to how dangerous the outside world is for them. However, Dexter feels that this oppression is wrong, and must decide whether to escape to terrorize his oppressors with a burning vengeance, or to peacefully gain support to shift the world into a better direction.

Now, onto what you'll be seeing within:

- The game is about managing relationships with the other characters. In order to go with either the Peacemaker or Vengeance Path, you must be friends with certain characters, and not be friendly with others.

- The Peacemaker Path has you bond with the other characters, as you build up enough trust and support from the good-alligned characters to leave the archipelago, and try to change the world by fighting the prejudice against the Neo Deities with peaceful tactics.

- The Vengeance Path has you only befriending one character, who sends you around the island to fetch supplies. You're going to escape the archipelago and terrorize the Non-Deities for what they have done to you. You are going to violently handle your dilemmas.

- A turn-based battle system. Dexter makes his move, then the enemy will make theirs. You must guide Dexter to parry to the left or right, jump up, or duck down, in a DDR-fashion, to avoid the enemy's attacks. Dexter has 15 stamina, so you get fifteen chances until he's struck out.

- In the Peacemaker Path, instead of material-collecting quests, you engage in Bonding Events with the characters that you are trying to befriend. As you complete them, the plot continues. Bonding Quests also allow the player to adventure through character arcs.

- Intractable environments, sprinkled with witty dialogue throughout.
Soren: "Oh, Dexter, could you play piano for me?"

Dexter: "Let's get groovy!"

*Dexter attempts to play the piano.

Soren: "... This was a mistake. Please keep your day job, Dex..."

- Four islands to explore.

- A whole, customized sprite set.

- There's poc, neurodivergent and mogii characters, all with different body types, species (can you believe one character is actually part cow, and another part chicken?), and personalities. All of them are losers too, except for maybe two. Allow me to introduce some!

(Not the art that appears in the game. This is my own.)

- All characters have unique portraits, with varied emotions each.

Anyways, I wish you all the best with developing your own games! If you are interested, that's awesome! Feel free to ask anything or chat with me about it, since I love to ramble about my project!

Ah, yes! I almost forgot to explain the title. NecroTricks is the term used for the necromancy that the Non-Deities use, which is the source of prejudice. The name comes from necromancy and magic tricks. The more you know.

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
