I've been working with VXAce for a while now and I've figured out a few things on my own but there are a few things  I'm haveing trouble with. And if this has been asked before I applogize in advance.

I'm working on an area where certain area's of the map removes the players health. The idea is if the Character's health reaches Zero, Game Over. Simple enough. Except the character isn't dying. The Heath goes to zero and Game over doesn't occure. I've looked around but haven't found a solution, though I bet it's stareing me in the face the whole time. Any help with this would be appreciated.

My other question regards the icon set sprite sheet. I want to replace the one that comes with the program and I have imported new sprite sheet but I can't seem to figure out how to switch the two.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

In regards to your first question, the answer is "it depends". If you are using the default damaging terrain capability built into the engine, the answer is indeed simple. Go to the database (either click on the icon for it at the top of the current map screen, or hit the F9 key). On the top, you will see a row of tabs that you can click to access other aspects of the database. Click on the System tab (second from the far right). On the right hand side of the screen that comes up when you hit the System tab, you will see a series of check-boxes which you can individually select. Check the box that says "K.O. by Floor Damage". This should fix your first problem. If you are NOT using the default damaging terrain capability built into the engine, please reply with exactly the method that you are using, and I may be able to help you more.

Regarding the icon sprite sheet, I am unable to help you, as I have never played with it myself, but I am sure that a more veteran user will be able to provide you with the information you need. I would actually be interested in the answer to this question myself, as I am going to be getting into custom icon and tilesets soon.

Go to resource manager and look for the icon set and delete or export it if you want a copy just in case. Then import yours and make sure it's named IconSet.

It's already set up as you suggested. The character just won't die  with zero heath. Same thing happens when I try to make an enemy on the map reduce the health of the player  just by the player touching it.

And EtphTheElephant, I'm going to give it a try and I'll let you know if it worked.  Both of you Thanks for the help.

What method are you using to reduce the player's health?  If you are doing it via an event, could you post a screen shot of the full event page (not just the commands bit).  If you are doing it by using the Damage Floor option in Database/Tilesets do you have any script which might be interfering with it?

In other words, if everything was absolutely default Azarael's suggestion about checking the box "KO by floor damage" would work.  Are you sure you haven't checked the "KO by slip damage" by mistake?

Hmmm... That sounds like a quirk happened somewhere unanticipated. As kjsp17 suggested, you may have either the wrong checkbox selected, or there may be a script interference somewhere. If you ARE doing it by eventing, there are too many possible reasons for failure to get into without a screenshot of the eventing pages. I can think of no other potential reasons why it wouldn't work. Have you made any changes to the default engine, or used any scripts in your game? If so, please post here. Either way, good luck, and keep us posted on your progress! :D

First off, EtphTheElephant that worked perfectly Thanks!

Second, When it comes to floor damage I'm doing exactly as suggested. But when I'm reduceing (Or trying to reduce) useing events when it comes to the player touching other objects or characters/enemies on the map  I just have this:

@>Flash Screen:(255,0,0,255),@12

@>Change HP:Entire Party,-20

Either way, health reduces to zero and game continues. Death occures fine with battles.

The game can use only one iconset (unless you use some scripts to change that), so the new iconsheet needs to have the same name as the original and replace that original icon set. If you want to use icons from both sets, export the original, combine it with the new set to one large set and reimport it under the old name.

If the actors have zero HP and don't die by floor damage, then something prevents death. This could be the checkbox in the database (slip damage is damage done by states like poison, floor damage is damage done by the damage-tile-flag on the tilesets), it could be an "Immortal"-State set on the actor, or it could be a script modifying the default behaviour.

You'll have to check those options of preventing death for yourself - but you might also test them in a new game to check if your setup is correct for the defaults...

Edit:

@>Change HP:Entire Party,-20
In that command, did you check the box for "allow knockout" or not?
By the way, if someone asks for a screenshot, please provide the screenshot and DO NOT simply type or copy the command area. A lot of eventing errors are outside the command/content area, and we need your entire event setup (includng the conditions and settings) to find the bug...

*Facepalm* I Knew it was something that was stareing me right in the face.  Death by touching the object works fine now.  Just need to work out the floor damage issue  I'll do as suggested and make sure I haven't missed anything and I'll let you know if it works or not.  If It does work I'll leave this thread for any other questions I might have rather than starting up an new one each time.

As far as a screen grab goes, I don't have a program for that just yet but I'll have one installed for the next time someone asks.

You don't need a program for screenshots.
Just press [print] (full screen) or [Alt]-[Print] (active window only), then open MS Paint and insert the screenshot from clipboard

Okay I'm not sure what you are talking about. I'm using a laptop and as far as I can tell there's no print button.

On a laptop, the special function buttons are often placed at other keys to preserve size, and then require a [fn] key in addition to the normal key. However, that depends on the notebook and how it rearranges the regular keyboard...

I believe Andar is referring to the PrintScreen key when he says Print.  It could be on a function key (F1, F2, etc) or may be separate.  Mine for example, says PrntScr.  Pressing Alt & PrintScreen together will capture the window you have Active (Active meaning the one that is being focused on, not grayed out, behind any other windows, etc).  Then when you go into MS Paint you can do a Ctrl + V (aka Paste) and then edit the screenshot as needed.

Ah, I see it now. Thanks. I don't mean to come off as an idiot but I've got a Gateway and My Function keys are usually for doing stuff like switching monitors or shutting off my Wireless device  and just never use them.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
