Need a poison type state.

Hi haven't been on these forums in a long while but im getting more serious about making a game but i've run into a problem
I'm attempting to make a state similiar to poison that does damage over time outside of battle but i put in the same effects as poison but when a test the game the i just get a game over when the state is applied.

That sounds rather as if you accidentally made the state#1 into your new poison state.

If you had checked the notes before changing it you could have read that the state #1 is tied to knockout, and automated game over if state #1 is on every actor.

You can make an event on a particular tile that has the "change state" feature listed under the "actor" section (page 1) of the event commands menu. There are some option in there for how to apply the state.

The state should be a new one you created which should be designated in the above mentioned event and differentiated somehow from the normal poison since you want it to be different.

For anything DoT related I'd recommend using the Yanfly Extended Damage Over Time plugin to manage your new poison state's output since you might not want it to be percentage based damage but rather a set amount of your choosing. Here's the link:

Also if you make the poison application event a common event you can attach it to region tiles using the Yanfly Region Events plugin:

This allows you to attach common events to regions for easy placement, etc. So if you want an entire area of your map (like a swamp or something) to be poison and to apply the poison state if touched that plugin is really helpful.
