So...I'm joining a pitch contest. It's not a pitch a video game contest.
It's a pitch your "company idea" contest, where in you get to win $10,000 (roughly) as an investment if you actually win.
I'm from a poor country, so $10, 000 is like probably 5 years of life for me so I'm really interested in getting in.
And let's just say you didnt win. Before the finals, you get to be in a business bootcamp, where you meet people who mentor you, and get you some connections even if you didn't win said contest.
All seems well and good, and it seems like a good idea.
But here are my fears coming in to this.
The first round of this contest is open to everyone where I'm from. You have to write an essay on why your company is a great idea.
My company idea of course is to start a small game development studio. I know the market, I know what to do, I just need capital more or less. I've been racing to be the first one here, because no one seems to be into making their own games. There are studios here, but they are all outsourced by foreign companies like namco and capcom.
The thing is, the idea of a small game development studio is kinda niche but not hard to setup if you have the money. (I don't) So if you were a business man, and read the pitch on paper that says, "Hey, gaming actually makes billions every year" you'd be driven to a realization that will make you say "Why haven't we cashed on this yet. Let's set up a studio now. What? This guy's pitch? *Shredder sounds* What pitch?"
If my "Essay" pitch will give them that idea that the game development scene is quite good, maybe they will snatch that idea from underneath me and not let me pass.
Am I overthinking this and just go for it, or should I tread lightly?
Btw, this isn't a shady company setting this contest up, it's one of the largest banks where I'm from.
