im creating an event to repair a building. to repair the building the player must have : 1. a hammer equipped 2. 4 pieces of wood  and lastly 3. needs 6 nails.

this is how i have my event set up, it dosent work and its probably something stupid and simple thats causing it not to work, can someone take a look n tell me what i did wrong.

The first conditional branch checks for a specific actor to have the hammer equipped - but you have not yet named that actor in the database.

Most probably you've equipped the hammer on the wrong actor, cancelling the entire branch.

Second: where did you set the variables for wood and nails? show the events where you get that data, because there is no control variable command in that event, and if the variables aren't set they always stay zero (and won't trigger the true-branches of their conditionals.

Third:

Checking for item in inventory and then a second checking of a variable for the same item is unneccessaryly complicated. If nails and wood are items in your game, then get rid of that double conditional (and any control variable commands in the events where you get the wood and the nails) and just do it the following way:

control variable [nails] : game data : item [nail] in inventory

conditional branch : variable [nails] >= 6

i got it workin thx, i have 1 more question if ya dont mind.  how would i go about setting it up so that the player can use a ladder to climb up on the roof to fix a few spots, without  walking on or off the roof from any other location other than the ladder. i read somewhere i would have to use events. but i dont have any idea how to even begin to set that up

That is the basic function of a ladder and already incorporated into the default ;-)

There are two problems you should be careful about:

1) A ladder is defined as a tile which has the flag "ladder" in the tileset database set. It doesn't matter what picture it shows, it's a ladder or not depending on that setting (which is not a ladder for most cases).

2) that only works automatically for the autotiles set as ceilings - which is only about half of those tiles in the A4 (walls) segment of the tileset definition. (should be obvious by their looks)

Mixing those definitions up usually results in the player being able to get on and off the top of the walls at placed that weren't intended.

----------------------------------------

If that doesn't work for you, you might need to make a set of 9 roof tiles (center and all 8 edges) in a B-Tab and use directional passability settings to allow movement only within that structure.

I wouldn't recomment this however because it only works if you can spare that block of tiles and if you can put your own tilesets together in a graphic program.

By default, exterior roof tiles are not passable. If you want them to act like ceiling tiles (you can walk onto them as long as you have a ladder, but you can't walk off them to the walls our surrounding area - only via the ladder) then you would need to copy the roof tile from your A3 tile into a new A4 tile and add that to your tileset.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
