So I was planning to start designing my first Game - A Rogue-like Tower adventure which focuses more on Combat, Exploration and very little on Story.
The General Story :
At this point, The Early Concept of the Game is - The Hero who happens to be a Pirate, is Ship-wrecked on a Lone island because of a Storm. Now he gets to explore this Lone Island and comes across to see this Ancient Tower on the far edge of it. As he enters it and advances through the Floors, He meets another Party Member who eventually assist him on his adventure. They both set out to explore the tower and reach the Top Floor fighting through what seems like easy monsters and solving very simple puzzles.
All seems good at first, However there is something very dangerous lurking in the Tower - An Evil Fog. This Fog appears every night at a particular time and when this happens, The Tower alters itself into completely different experience. Dangerous Monsters from another Dimension start spawning and strange anomalies happen (Restricted Movement & Vision), Appearance of Specters (Boss Monsters) and Puzzles on the Floors suddenly become harder ! The Fog remains for a while and then fades away in the morning.
This is still an very early Game Concept but I have many doubts regarding implementing some of these ideas in the game. Would love to get some feedback regarding these.
1) What reasons can you think of which would motivate the Characters to climb up the tower and reach the Top Floor ?
I was thinking about maybe looking for a way to get help by activating a Beacon on the top floor so they get rescued by another Ship.
2) The Introduction of Fog could be exciting or disastrous if not planned well. What kind of Counter-play could you imagine against this Evil Fog ?
I was planning about Camping tents to be found on the Island. They could use these to be setup anywhere on the Floor (From the Inventory) and head to sleep and then continue exploration once the Fog had settled.
3) How may Floors would you endure before reaching the Top, When you imagine climbing up this Tower ?
Personally, I was thinking maybe 7 Floors simply because its my first game, I'm not sure. Perhaps 7 is too much or too less ? I was also planning 2 side dungeon floors where they could fight off Hidden monsters and get Unique Gear in addition to these 7 Floors, Bringing it to a Total of 10 Floors, If you add the Basement Floor (Planned Size of Floors are anywhere from 20 X 20, 25 x 25 or 30 x 30, depending on what works out).
Here is some Additional Information about the Game :
- There are only 3 Pieces of Gear - Weapon, Gear and Tomes. Weapons provide damage, Gear can be anything from Gloves to body Armor that increase your Defenses or Provide HP. Tomes contain built-in Skills and drastically alter Play styles of a Class
- There are no Gear Upgrades, Just Shuffling through Unique Gear (Each different from another)
- There will be only 1 or 2 Save Points allowed in the entire Game, I want it to feel Intense and Challenging and Spooky at times
- I have 3 Characters planned are : Pirate (Hybrid Class), Female Ninja (Damage Class), Gypsy (Support Class)
