RPG Maker Forums

Hi all.

I'm new to RPG Maker VX Ace and am also new to the forums. I managed to grab a copy from Steam a few days ago and have been attached to it ever since. I've managed to grasp the basics of switches and parallax mapping, but the only things I have trouble with is scripts and trying to understand them. I've been working with Moghunter's scripts for the most part and watching videos, but at the moment, the language is more alien to me than Arabic.

I plan to avoid working with many scripts at a time until I can actually make them. Fortunately, my current project doesn't involve many scripts, except for the beginning. 

Here is where my problem begins: 

I'm trying to make a title screen similar to the title screen of the Wii game, The Last Story (Here's a link to see). I like it's minimalist feel and it looks pretty simple to do. The only thing I plan on doing is having my title screen empty for a few seconds, then having the title fade in (like in the video). I'd really like to have the three choices fade in after the title as well, if possible (but not necessary). However, I see that VXAce doesn't allow title animations unless I were to use a script. 

I have tried using Mog's Animated Title Screen script, but since I know very little, trying to get rid of the additional animations the script requires makes my game unplayable. So I found Shaz's Simple Splash Screens and the script looks like it can help me with the "title fade in" I'm looking for, if I just set an empty identical layer to fade into the titled layer. Unless its set to fade into black, then I'll have to look elsewhere. 

So I've installed the script but am currently failing to see where I make the "Graphics/Splash folder". I thought I could make the folder in the resource database, but I couldn't do anything. So I tried using the p86x files (or whatever) and creating a splash folder in the Graphics folder, but nothing has changed. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? 

What I need help with:

1. Where do I make the Graphics/Splash Folder?
2. How would I change the main menu to go horizontal from its vertical blue box? Is there a simple script for that, or is pretty much anything I want to change about the title screen needing a script?
3. Where can I learn how to script? I try googling it but I haven't found any links... plus I'm not sure if I should be learning Ruby or RGSS2/3 or both.
4. If there is any unrelated advice you could give to a newbie developer, that would be cool too.
