I bring up the problem that in gimp I am trying to make 34 x 34 sprites for my DnD Campaign using the character sheets. My problem is described here. If you need more info after looking at the video then I will provide. But basically is there a way to export all sprites as individual ones? Or do I have to do the annoying process that I talked about in the video? Oh also a side note, I made that video for reddit, so that's why I say /u/Advencraftgaming here.

I've moved this thread to Program and Utility discussions. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Tech-Support is for getting the editors to run.

And please describe your problem in a few sentences here. I will not watch a video to learn about your problem (and I know the same goes for a lot of others, you'll get help faster on this board if you take the time to write down what you want)

Okay then... so my issue is like i've described already lol... i have 34x34 sprites and im taking the sprite sheets and putting them into individual sprites.. is there a faster way of doing this.. which i've already stated up above.. what else do I have to add? I want to take the sheets and turn them into individual ones. I think that's all I have to add.

I would do it like this:

  1. On the large sheet make a grid that is in the size you need. ( I would set it to 32x32 because that is how large the sprites are)
  2. Turn on snap to grid
  3. use the square selection tool so select the sprite section you want
  4. Copy that using strg+c
  5. Add it as a new Picture using shift+strg+v
  6. then change the size of the NEW picture to the size you need

That should speed up the whole process

Okay, I watched the first minute of your video - which is a miracle in and of itself, because I never watch videos. And I'm really, really clueless as to what youve done to these sprites and why you are doing what you are doing.

First, those spritesheets, by themselves, are already formatted to be used correctly in the editor. I'm not sure why you've put so many spritesheets together in one image and are now trying to isolate the individual sprites.

Second, those sprites are made with the standard 32 x 32. So, even if you need the images isolated, you should have a 32x32 grid on and the characters centered properly. If you open just one of those big spritesheets, you can simply set the grid to 32x32 and it will be correct. Then you can use some of the steps Iliketea mentioned to isolate the sprites. It's so much easier once the grid is on.

I'd read through this to get a basic understanding of how sprite sheets work. It might not be apparent, but even the downed poses sheets follow these rules - they are technically a sheet of 8 characters and follow the same directional guidelines.

I recomend use other freeware aplication to doing this.

If you using Win system, you can try InfranView for bath conversion, just set x and y size, start x,y... You can cut multiple files at once.

Sometimes ago i used other freeware program to cutting images into smallest parts. Unfrtunetly i don't remember name.

If you use linux - wine may be helpful for running other windows software.

Last thing in my mind - try search for script written in python...

Thanks, I'll check it out! I'm trying to use it and I'm a bit confused. I guess eventually I'll figure it out.

My first instinct is to say you're just trying to make your life difficult, as mlogan points out. But then I see

  • 34x34 sprites

and

  • for my DnD Campaign

which sounds an awful lot like you're not using these in RPG Maker. Please clarify?

We use Roll20.net for our DnD campaign, soooooo that's why. I needed some character models, and I love the RPG maker ones.

Well, there's a really simple solution to your problem, here. You can not use these outside of RPG Maker.

In practice no one will ever come after you for sticking a picture on a D&D character sheet that you don't release to the public.  But technically it's a violation of the EULA so you can't ask for help about how to do that here.

Oof, this "side project" of mine is starting to get as complex as a VS plugin, at least as far as plugin parameters are concerned. I think I now understand why a plugin like this doesn't already exist(that I know of). Learning a lot while trying to make it work though!
