So I have been browsing the web and do some market research for weeks from a popular indie game platform itch.io,To find some idea and inspirations to make games.
I peeked on patreons from a lot of indie developer, and I am very surprised that it’s the adult game/NFSW game that is making good amount of money per month.
They range from $2000-$5000 per month!! Some even reach $15k (Because it’s very high quality and had 3D fully animated nsfw scene, obviously good adult game is quiet rare so they deserve it.
But for most of them I tried the games they make and honestly most of the game are not even that good or polished.
So the purpose of why I make this thread is because I have several question:
1.How did they do it? I mean reached thousands of dollar via Patre.on with a mediocre game,sometimes with wonky controls and flat plot. Is it because of the NSFW element?
2.Is it the marketing technique? But there are so many games out there right now,there must be a way to make the game stand out?
3.It would really helped me if someone here willing to share their financial success with game development industry. Making game is an insane amount of work even if you are not alone,so of course it would be better if the game actually selling and people playing it.
I appreciate any Tips,comment, or maybe share your experience in game making.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
