Introduction

This is Neon Black's Large Sprite Fix ported from Ace.  The MV script was written by Neon Black - I just made a fix to it while he was unavailable.

How to use

Please read plugin instructions.

Script MUST be saved as CP_Large_Sprite_Fix.js in your js/plugins folder.

Not to sound ungrateful or anything, but didn't he include this in the plugin pack already?  Cuz, it's in there, unless this has extra fixes the original one he provided doesn't. Mostly, I'm just confused. o.o

Oh, nevermind.  I need to really read everything in the OP sometimes. lol

I see that you said you made a fix while he was unavailable.  Kudos!

Yes, the dlc has the original, buggy version.  This is the fixed version, which I expected to be in the update, but wasn't.  So the fixed version was not available anywhere, until now.

Also, a lot of the plugins shipped with the engine have had threads made here.  People need somewhere to go for support ;)

I'm using the one that came with the engine. My character appears in front of a star tile when the y position is greater than and appears in the back when the y is less than. However, when my character appears in the middle of two star tiles, he stands behind both tiles.

With this version, my character is always behind any star tiles no matter what. So now my character can't be in the front when his y position is greater than the tile's y position.

Is there supposed be that difference?

There is still an issue with the script.  I'm looking at it today.

Hey!

I just switched to this script from the one that came with the engine, but it doesn't work? I add a <large sprite> in a comment box in the event, but it still disappears behind star tiles. :/ The player has the same problem. The old script didn't work either btw.

Yeah, I'm wondering is this still being worked on and who might be working on it or is it put on hold for now.

I just removed all custom plugins etc. and as you can see it really does not work.

The portal is just disappearing below the upper tile of the bench, which uses a star? Same goes for the top of the player. I'm confused as to how this is not working at all. o_O

Come on, it's a pretty HUGE bug. Someone must have a fix?

It is not stopping you from making your game. As long as it's fixed by the time you're ready for release ...


Otherwise, work within the limits of the engine and don't use huge sprites.

I hear you, Shaz. I was developing something like this for my own rpg engine framework, and the hard part was getting each individual tiles and actor Y reference to sort correctly from the player's position. I got it down but decided to move to MV anyway.

Hopefully you can figure things out, especially for those of us that do custom graphics.

We're releasing on Steam in 2 weeks though. :)

Does this script have basic functionality for you?

i.e. a star tile 1 y position above the player, does the player's head show above or below this tile?

Yeah or Shaz's edit. :)

Edit: Oh, hey, I accidentally located the source of the bug.

If the <large sprite> is on a star-tile, then it won't show above the star tile y-1 above it.

If it's NOT on a star tile, then it actually works. Cool.

Edit 2: OH, Mike, are we talking about the same bug? I didn't realize that before. I thought you were talking about having 2 star tiles on the same spot.

Yes, we've already established that the bug is due to two star tiles, with the player between them.
