Hello!

So first of all, I'm new to posting on forums and creating threads, so if I should be doing something else here or you have any suggestions for future posts, please feel free to give any advice.

I am learning how to develop with C++ and Unreal Engine 4. I have little to no experience with coding besides some basics of Python and C++, which is one of the reasons for starting on RMXP, but I do know where to start with game development. My larger passion projects are obviously being developed on UE4, but I will be using RPG Maker for practice in story building and game completion and release. What I'm trying to find through this post are confirmations to my assumptions that RPG Maker XP is the right engine for the aim of creating storytelling games that have similar appearances as the titles To the Moon and Finding Paradise by Freebird Games and to learn the general flow of game development. I also have a few questions:

Will I have any issues using this engine on my current operating system: Windows 7 64bit?

What are the max dimensions I can use for artwork using the engine?

Are there any suggests an experienced user might have for a new creator on this engine?

Normally not. I used to have XP on my Windows 7 and I'm currently using it without any problems on Windows 8.1. I suggest you download the 30-days trial and see if it works just to be sure.

The game's resolution is 640x480, so anything bigger than that will not show up.

Try out the trial, read up on some tutorials (basic eventing is the same as in other engines, though the commands in XP are less organized) and make a small game/cutscene to get used to the engine.

You might want to try out the trials of the newer makers however, because XP is an extremely old engine. Its only remaining advantage is the manual control over map layers, where all later makers switched to automatic layering (which is faster to use but can't do everything like XP).
But the database and the scripting was much improved, and beginning with RMMV it is possible for non-windows games (all previous engines including RMXP are windows-only).

Thank you! I think I will try RMMV then and check out the trial. It seems like it would be worth investing in vs RMXP. I don't know any Javascript, but everything else looks easy to use.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
