I'm Zyax, hello!

I'm new to RPG Maker, and the forums.

I'll get to the point, I need help with my game! Basically, I need just this list of things:

1. Character switching. As you go through the game, there are crystals that let you switch characters ( Based on who is with you at the time in the story ) but they don't work yet.

2. Parties. I found this script that makes it so you can change the maximum party members etc, and I'd like to add it as certain characters will follow you through the story.

3.Game over. Can I somehow make it so when you die, you respawn at a certain checkpoint? ( Think of say, Pokemon and Pokemon Centers. )

Thank you SOOO much to anyone who can help!

1. Create the crystal event with a combination of Conditional Branch, Player Choice, and Change Party Members.

2.

3. A script can easily do this. It's also possible with eventing by making your battles through events (as opposed to random encounters). Utilize the Battle Processing function in the event list, and check the 'Continue Even When Loser' box. Add a Transfer Player in the 'If Lose' part.

Thank you so much for your response! Character switching: Any guide on how the conditional branching would work for this exact use? I've used the party change and player choice before, so don't need any more help for that.

Scripts: Okay, I'm not sure what part of a script to put it. If I wanted to use this: https://github.com/Archeia/YEARepo/blob/master/Menu/Party_System.rb what part would I copy into it? I was told that if you put it all in, including the introduction etc, then it would break.

And finally: Any scripts you'd recommend for the game-over-stoppage?

Thanks again! Wow, you must know your stuff!

Would you mind adding me on Skype, if you have it? It'd be easier if I have more questions.

Please keep your threads limited to one question per thread. You're asking about 3 different things here and it's going to be extremely confusing figuring out what people are helping you with, what has been solved, and what still needs assistance.

If you need help with a script, it goes in the Script Support forum, and you should provide a link to the script.

Also your descriptions leave a lot to be desired. What is "character switching"? Do you want to change who is in your party (add/remove members) or just change their order? The formation screen can do that, unless you've disabled it. And what do you mean by "change maximum party members"? There is no limit to how many characters you can have in your party at any time. Just how many you see in battle and how many follow you on the map if you have visible followers. And changing that depends on whether you're using default battle scripts or custom ones.

You need to provide more information about what you're requesting help with, and more information about how your game is set up.

Sorry about that! By character switching I mean playing as one character/actor, and using an event changing to another. So say Actor 1 is the Soldier class, and has a long sword. You walk up to the crystal and choose to be Actor 2, so now your sprite is Actor 2, you have his/her name, class, weapons, and all that.

While looking for tutorials, multiple had said you can only have 4 party members at a time. I did not know that you can have more than 4, just not following you. And yes, I mean following and in battle.

My game is set up where, your character is Myk, and you live in a house with Zac. In your house, there is a crystal. If you touch it, a character called The Gamemaker talks to you, and asks if you would like to switch to Zac. If you do, then you'll appear as Zac's sprite, with his class etc. So through the game, you go to different worlds ( Say, a world based on my school, and friends I have within ) and meet people. Some of these people you can recruit to your team, and at crystals in certain areas, you can play as them now. At certain times, I would like them to be able to follow you, and so being able to make as many as I want follow you, that would be great.

TL;DR: I need help being able to play as a different actor through an event. The other questions are solved, thanks for your help.

Are both actor 1 and actor 2 in your party prior to going up to the crystal? If you are not "playing as them", are they still in your party as followers? If they are, you are not "switching" - you are just "changing the leader". You can do this by opening the main menu and changing formation. You would also be able to do it using Script calls within a Show Choices box if you had several in your party and wanted to allow the player to choose between them. To make the crystal meaningful, you'd need to disable party formation changes for the rest of the game (there is an event command to do this - I think it's on tab 3).

If you are talking about having two completely different parties, then you would need a party script, of which there are several.

You can have as many party members as you want. Only 4 of them will be active in battle and visible on the map if you have followers turned on. You can change that easily by adjusting one number in the Game_Player script (I think it's in a method called max_battle_members but I don't have Ace on this computer so could be wrong there). The only difficulty is if you are using a custom battle script - for instance, a side view one or one that shows sprites for your party members. That's why I mentioned changing of the number of battlers/followers depends on whether you're using default battle scripts or custom ones, and you didn't answer that question.

Okay, you answered how to change the the characters - I'll try it all out when I get back into working on the game - so thanks. That's all I needed help with, so thanks a ton! I didn't answer the scripts question as I haven't messed with much, and I'm honestly not sure how custom you meant, whether you meant I wrote it out/got one here, or if there was a way to change battling as if you were making a character in the character generator.

I am 99.99% sure you can lock threads, so go ahead and lock this one, I've got all the answers I need.

Again! Thank you both SO much!

I meant have you made any changes to the battle scripts or have you added any scripts that change the battle system? If your battles look just like the default ones with NO script changes or additions, then you likely haven't made any changes.

ps - you don't need to quote the person's entire post when you're replying immediately after them ;)

Actually, it would be better for people to ask for help in the forums. Using PM means you're only getting answers from one person (who may or may not be right, or there may be better ways than the answer given) AND you have to wait for them to see your message, hope they understand what you're saying, and have time to message you back.

The forums are here so EVERYONE can help EVERYONE ;)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
