So I'm considering grabbing RPGMaker MV from Steam "soonish" as I have one or two ideas, but I figured I'd ask first and see if my ideas were even possible. Since the Steam forums are completely silent, I came here. Yeah, hi by the way


I see that MV seems to be mostly "Final Fantasy" style --- I'm looking to design something more in the Wizardry style (if anyone here is a fan of those games, since they're rather a generation or two old at this point). Is a first-person "Wizardry-style Roguelike" possible with MV's abilities, or should I stick to a Final Fantasy style thing?

yes and no - theoretically you can change anything in RMMV, and someone is already working on a plugin for a first-person-perspective.


practically I would advice against it - the main focus is on top-down-style maps, and if you really want a FP-view then it would be better to go with an engine that supports it directly.


That is because all those scripts for changing the engine are community-works, and if no one continues working on the FP-Plugin, then at one time you'll be stuck.


I suggest using the trial  to test what can be done by default before purchasing (there is a 20-day-limit on the trial, but it has full functionality). If it goes too far away from your ideas, then look for alternatives. Doesn't mean that there are many, most FP-games today work with Unity or similiar 3D-engines and those have other problems and limits, but you're the only one who can decide that.
