Hello everyone, I'm Shada, aka MystrylShada around the web. Or you can call me the Crutch Ninja, because REASONS! WHEEE! I've been hearing about this forum for a few years from a friend of mine, and now that she and my sister have decided to band together to design a few games, I figured it was time to check this fun stuff out! And get utterly blown away by the SHEER TALENT I'm already seeing, yikes. I hear there's lots of supportive people and threads and tutorials, so I'll be probably have to turn into a bit of a sponge if I want to learn what I can to make this game. Its exciting. My main area of expertise is with 2D, cartoon/anime level artwork, but I'd like to expand not only my knowledge of that, but also pick up a few things about how coding for this game making program. I've got a lot ahead of me, but I'm going in with the knowledge that this is the place to learn about it, so I feel confident I can figure something out.
I've got some practice in drawing; I've taken a couple art classes in my day, and I have a Deviantart page. I used to have a regularly updating comic strip, until my life got too in the way to keep it up (I hope to revive it someday though). I'm really into reading and writing also, and I have several books in the works thanks to NaNoWriMo that I may actually deem readable to other sentient life forms someday! My main genre interests are Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery, and Comedy, so my stories end up being a mix of at least three of those. I highly value good character design and development also, and the quirkier the character the more fun they are to me.
I'm also a huge fan of animation. Ever since I was a kid, I didn't just watch cartoons; I STUDIED them. The writing, the art, the music, the pacing, I paid attention to it all like a kitten chasing a laser dot. I could pick out what animation team did which episode, or what writer spearheaded that week. I've taken my interest into critiquing in general, and nearly pursued careers as a film critic or animator. But lately they're more of hobbies, although my love of animation will probably never die. I loved trying to copy animation styles, and cartoon fanart makes up most of my Deviantart page, which I also use as a vent for analyzing my favorite shows.
I can't exactly go much into what I do for a living (a moniker like Crutch Ninja rather hints at jobs being a bit difficult), but I have been getting my feet (hands?) wet in all kinds of different things, and game design is something that can play to an excellent mix of my talents. Provided I can wrap my noob brain around the programming aspect. But that's what tutorials are for; I'll just go bang my head on those for help. Every talent starts out utterly confused at first, right?
So I just wanted to say hi to everyone and let you know a bit more about me. My regularity may be sporadic, but I do intend to try to become a presence here. And who knows, maybe someday I may actually climb high enough on the talent ladder to be able to see the View of Wisdom and impart it to other climbers! But I've probably babbled enough for a whole brook by now. Thanks for indulging my introduction, and for having such a welcome and informative forum!
