Hello everyone, I'm Shada, aka MystrylShada around the web. Or you can call me the Crutch Ninja, because REASONS! WHEEE! I've been hearing about this forum for a few years from a friend of mine, and now that she and my sister have decided to band together to design a few games, I figured it was time to check this fun stuff out! And get utterly blown away by the SHEER TALENT I'm already seeing, yikes. I hear there's lots of supportive people and threads and tutorials, so I'll be probably have to turn into a bit of a sponge if I want to learn what I can to make this game. Its exciting. My main area of expertise is with 2D, cartoon/anime level artwork, but I'd like to expand not only my knowledge of that, but also pick up a few things about how coding for this game making program. I've got a lot ahead of me, but I'm going in with the knowledge that this is the place to learn about it, so I feel confident I can figure something out.

I've got some practice in drawing; I've taken a couple art classes in my day, and I have a Deviantart page. I used to have a regularly updating comic strip, until my life got too in the way to keep it up (I hope to revive it someday though). I'm really into reading and writing also, and I have several books in the works thanks to NaNoWriMo that I may actually deem readable to other sentient life forms someday! My main genre interests are Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery, and Comedy, so my stories end up being a mix of at least three of those. I highly value good character design and development also, and the quirkier the character the more fun they are to me.

I'm also a huge fan of animation. Ever since I was a kid, I didn't just watch cartoons; I STUDIED them. The writing, the art, the music, the pacing, I paid attention to it all like a kitten chasing a laser dot. I could pick out what animation team did which episode, or what writer spearheaded that week. I've taken my interest into critiquing in general, and nearly pursued careers as a film critic or animator. But lately they're more of hobbies, although my love of animation will probably never die. I loved trying to copy animation styles, and cartoon fanart makes up most of my Deviantart page, which I also use as a vent for analyzing my favorite shows.

I can't exactly go much into what I do for a living (a moniker like Crutch Ninja rather hints at jobs being a bit difficult), but I have been getting my feet (hands?) wet in all kinds of different things, and game design is something that can play to an excellent mix of my talents. Provided I can wrap my noob brain around the programming aspect. But that's what tutorials are for; I'll just go bang my head on those for help. Every talent starts out utterly confused at first, right?

So I just wanted to say hi to everyone and let you know a bit more about me. My regularity may be sporadic, but I do intend to try to become a presence here. And who knows, maybe someday I may actually climb high enough on the talent ladder to be able to see the View of Wisdom and impart it to other climbers! But I've probably babbled enough for a whole brook by now. Thanks for indulging my introduction, and for having such a welcome and informative forum!

Heya! Nice meeting you It's always nice to meet new face and works come around. I too am rather a novice at this whole game-making dealy-o, and hope to create something with at least a fraction of decency. (Oh and if you like cartoons, maybe you'll like my Thread? I'm sure my work pales compared to whatever you can make, but feel free to check it out if you ever have time. Shameless self-plug is shameless!) Anywho, welcome to the forums, and maybe we'll see you around!

Nice too meet you too! :D

Your art is adorable! I just love the classic cartoon look of the animals too, but they still have your own flavor to them. I especially love the dragon; I just love dragons, and that one is a very cute and unique design.

Shiro is my fave (because of an extreme love of leader characters), but Pidge is a close second.

Who doesn't love Shiro, lol? Space Dad for the win. He's awesome, but I think he needs more hugs than he's getting. :esad: Hope he'll be OK with whatever's coming in Season 6....

Pidge is definitely my fav. She's fun and I'm a bit of a tomboy myself (albeit not a computer whiz). Shiro and Lance are next up though; Shiro is definitely made of win.

Welcome to the forums! You're going to love it here.

I'm glad I know who your avatar is, now. I'm not familiar with the show so I was thinking that it was a really cool looking rendition of Velma from Scooby-Doo. Sorry.

Anyway, nice to meet you. I'll be seeing around the forums.

LOL that's actually what I thought about the character design when I first saw the series, so I totally get it. I did love Velma too; go geeks in glasses (they tend to be my favorite characters, I've noticed).

Thanks! Nice to meet you too!

Yay thanks so much! I've been sorta informally following for a little while through a friend already in here, but I figured since we're all just jumping into the subject I should be in as well. It does look like a great place for game developers, big and small, to hang out!

Welcome aboard! One thing we suggest is working through the tutorials before starting a big project, you can find a link to them in my signature here.

Also side note: Be careful when quoting people's posts, as the system will default to new post, which can result in a double post. I saw it happened to you once already above. We usually recommend @ then type out the name to reply to avoid that issue.

Welcome to the boreds! (See what I did there??) I'm sure you'll learn lots very quickly, as this community is more about being helpful than anything else...
I heard you like cartoons. When I was a child, I lived on planet Earth Prime, and I loved Max Fleischer's Bimbo - nowadays he offends people, mainly due to his resemblance to Mickey Mouse I think. Check this out for some bizarre and disturbing art and story.

OK, I apparently misunderstood what double posting was, my baddie, lol. Will be more careful of that in future, thanks @bgillisp!

@consolcwby , thanks for the welcome, pun and all! :ywink: And interesting cartoon there; I think I've heard of that group, and even seen some references to that cartoon in particular, but I've never actually seen it. Disney wasn't the only one doing animation, after all. This proves that using cartoons for abstract storytelling is not a recent concept. You can read all kinds of interesting things in that.

It's ok. We use it to mean posting below yourself within 72 hours. It's mainly to make sure all threads get an equal chance at responses.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
