Hi

I just got RPG Maker and the best experience ive had with any program like this is Advance Map. Ive got basics down (placing objects, filling spaces with tiles, etc.). I want to try and make a horor game, but set in a more modern place, and all included sprites are from medieval times. I was wondering if i had to download some sort of resource pack to get different sprites and, if possible, can i make my own with pixel art?

Also, if someone could find a decent video tutorial for me on RPG maker (because i have no idea where to start) that would be amazing :) Thanks!

You can indeed make your own with pixel art.

There's a zombie set, a modern day tileset and a futuristic tileset. The latter two go well together imo. Some adjustments would help give it a better horror and unified feel.

IMO I'm not a fan of video tuts due to their blurriness and reliance on sound, but there should be some on here and Youtube.

You can find many tutorials on this site, as well as here.

Also, based on view count and comments alone, TheRhysWyrill's tutorial videos seem to be okay, though I actually haven't viewed them in their entirety.

As for the sprites/resources you can make your own, they just need to be formatted like the other default RTP spritesheets to run in game (you'll see what I mean when you try to import your own graphics :p ).

You can also buy the resource packs on the website or on Steam (I'm quite fond of the DS/DS+ resources). And there's plenty of resources on the forums and in the vast seas of the interweb.

Hope this helps!

In my opinion, video tutorials can't help newbies, because most either require some basic knowledge to understand them or are too short and glossing over details - and RPG-Maker has too many detailed options that need you working with them to really understand what you're doing.
Even reading a text tutorial (and there are a lot of very good ones on this site) is not enough to learn how to use RM, you need to work through the tutorials, making every step described for yourself in a tutorial project. That is possible by having the program open on one half of the monitor and the tutorial either printed or opened on the other half of the monitor - in the case of a video, you would waste half the time to stop and rewind when trying to do the same thing described in the video an the editor yourself.

Follow the link in my signature, that will show you where the official tutorials are and give you the basics.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
