Hello all. I'm new to the entirety of RPG Maker but I purchase VX Ace back when it first came out with the dream of creating my own game when I finally had an idea solid enough for one. Now, seeing all of the different kinds of games that are being made using the program and so on, I'm here to ask if it is possible to create a game that is a tile-based/turn-based RPG? The idea I have is inspired by a PS1 game called "Brigandine: The Legend of Forsena" and I would like to begin work on it as soon as possible. So along with my previous question (assuming the answer to it is "yes." If not, disregard the following); is there a way to turn basic square tiles into hexagons on VX Ace? Could I make a basic large map with multiple cities that are able to be selected and link to another map source for a battleground? (again, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, please just go take a ten minute look at the game I mentioned earlier, Brigandine: Legend of Forsena) On this large map could I actually make a cursor to use to select the cities? The only experience I have with RPG Maker is a game I toyed around with making on one of the older versions. I will go through tutorials for using the software, and I'm not trying to get a complete schooling session here. Just some basic tips and answers to my questions (maybe a link to a tutorial for a couple of things if possible) so I can get some assurance before I begin scrounging the internet for bits and pieces of information for my own game inspired by a game of relatively low popularity. I apologize for the book I'm writing, but I'm trying to make this as detailed as possible so anyone who takes the time to read it will hopefully have most of their questions answered. Either way, thank you and I look forward to begin working with the software.

The only question there I can answer is no, you cannot change squares into hexagons. If you wanted to do this in Ace, you would have to rewrite many scripts, but you'd still be stuck with the way maps are drawn, as we don't have the ability to change that through scripts (unless you completely ignore Ace mapping and drawing of maps and use something totally different, but then you may as well not use Ace at all)

Got it, thanks for the input! I'll continue waiting for the rest of the answers I need.

The problem with that is that you can't assume that anyone else knows the game you're referring to, and has excess time to search for the game on the internet. That means you'll have to wait extra long until someone who knows that game accidentally reads your questions.
You'll get your answers a lot faster if you describe the mechanic to us (instead of only call it "like <insert obscure and unknown game name>"). It will also help you if you structure your questions, a wall of unstructured texts without even line breaks like you made in your first post is very difficult to read.

Other than that, I can suggest you play the sample game "Crysalis" - that will give you a good idea of what is possible by default in VX Ace. For other game mechanics, you'll need scripts. If you don't know how to program a script yourself, there is a master script list containing about a thousand scripts that have been written by others and can be added to your projects without (or with only minimal) scripting knowledge.

You can find links to the sample games and the master script list in the tutorial that is linked in my signature.

Sounds good. I'll check those out. I understand what I can "basically" do with it, and I understand I'll probably need scripting for what I plan to do, but I'll reword this post in some way to explain the game to everyone.

Thanks for the tips!

I have seen Tile/Turn based RPGs made on this, however I can only assume that it was completely custom to their game, and as such, you would need to program the same.

I will edit this if I find the game again, you might be able to message the author for information!

Much thanks, dude! That would be incredibly helpful if so, but if not then no worries :)

Can't find it anywhere, I can't remember where I had seen it, it was on the forums somewhere, I will see if I can find it in my history!

Not a problem if you can't! I really appreciate the amount of effort though!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
