Hey all! Super newbie here just starting to dig into building an rpg.

Some tidbits- I plan on hand painting as much as I can, for better or worse, and I have previously written choose your story content on other platforms. (More VN style.)

Loved the process, and want to branch out into making a more full rpg game this time with my stories.

A friend of mine uses this platform and after dabbling in Unity and watching his progress here I decided on using MV first.

I... have no idea what else to say other than perhaps a request for any "START HERE" links you may suggest. If you want to see some of what I plan you can check my other post that I of course originally posted in the wrong place. ^_^'

Hey there and welcome aboard!
Can't wait to see what you're going to create then! I'm also really curious about entering the world of VN, seems so cool!
Yes, what @Thomas Smith linked is a great place to start ^^
Best of luck!

Welcome!

If you ever find it difficult, just hang in there. You'll get it eventually. xD I have lots of XP in XP (ba-dum-tsssss), but it took me a bit to get the grip of MV as well.

Thank you!

I've watched a significant chunk of the videos and I believe most of my ideas will be possible. I played around with customizing sprites. Now just trying to decide if I should use default and replace the main image files with my own painted ones (seems less likely I'll miss some poor NPC in a forgotten corner) or if I want to wait to start until I make a full set of 'brushes' and 'actor/events'.

Here is my extremely messy first attempt at painting. We'll call those black lines above her head a... dark... halo? Honestly, I just tossed some art in to see if I could get it 'moving', lol.

I am REALLY excited about being able to manipulate the enemies. I do want to know if there is a way to specify that a certain type of enemy target a specific player. Or have an enemy only use a specific ability on a specific NPC. Ex: Vampires more likely to use health drain on someone that it actually works on. (Not asking for an answer, I am not far enough to need one. Just sharing.)

Overall I am very impressed with the engine, and I think it will work for just about everything I wanted to achieve.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
