I like this JAM idea. Good timing.

Also, the way I read it there's really just one rule: "Entire Game must take place in ONE village/town/city". Well besides the engine requirements, but that's expected on this forum. Playtime is flexible, no restrictions on events, materials or number of database entries and so on this time around. I really like that as it means people can do pretty much what they want.

We're expecting a baby soon though so... I'm not sure I'll have time for this. But I'll at least give it some thought and if I come up with an enticing enough idea, I'll go for it.

In any case, good initiative.

I began to wonder if there would be no jam or release something event this year but turned out it went into a different jam. Consider I'm in. One product/progress per year seems like a good deal for me.

You know what.. I might just give it a go at this one. I am considered Essential, so I still have to work.. but this could be a nice little break from my main project and an opportunity to test a concept I've been stirring around in my head. :)

This is a great idea and it couldn't come at a better time. I think I'll step away from my big project for a bit and be a part of this as well.

Should entire game take place in a town or just the part created for the jam?
I had a demo last year which I had decided to redesign the first town differently, like having battles in town and alter how the story occurs. Is it acceptable?

The main thing is that the challenge is to make a complete game, not a demo.

Is bat soup too edgy for this contest/forum?

When you say "restrictions of the engine" is it okay to use a parallax map I previously for another game?

The only restrictions are that it is made with one of the listed engines and it take place in one town. I don't see how using a previously made map has anything to do with those.

does the entry have to be a traditional RPG? could it be something like a simcity or business management simulator, or even a casino style game like Vegas Stakes?

Sounds interesting ^^ I'll try to make something lol
Question! Since VNM is allowed, I'm guessing slight visual novel elements are fine right? Point and click too?

Does it strictly have to be a settlement, or will any restricted, single setting do? Can I set my game in an abandoned space ship, for example, or does a setting you have to travel to reach still count as travel? I assume something like a boat at sea or a moving train would be right out as being travel even if you can't leave them.

I was also wondering if we are limited to default RTP?

@RetailDrone7576 Make the style game you want to make.

@HotAndColdAF Perhaps Touchfuzzy will clarify, but I think being set on a vehicle is fine as long as you stay on the vehicle and aren’t say, traveling planet to planet. Touchfuzzy says put it in a town.

@KazukiT Not limited to RTP.

Remember everyone, the spirit of this is to complete a game with the theme of staying in one location. This isn’t a contest with prizes so there aren’t a ton of rules and restriction. It’s just meant to be a fun, productive thing to do while many of us have more free time. So make it with an RM engine or VNM, keep it in one town/location and you’re good to go.

Driving to Florida today to spend a week like we did last year. Looks like it will just be me and the Mrs. But she sleeps a lot longer than me so I will still have time to work on my Game Jam project. :stickytongue:
