Non-Transparent Sprite. Help!

So I was messing around with RPG Maker 2003 that I got very recently. I tried to replace the sprites of the characters a little. But the background colour is not transparent. If anybodt knows what I mean, please help me with this problem. It would be very appreciated.

If you've replaced or edited the sprites that it comes with, you have to import them again and re-select the transparent colors.
