I seem to be having trouble controlling the character... Whenever I start a game and playtest it, the character moves to the left whether I'm pressing an arrow key or not. I've re-made the map, deleted and re-made the event, and reinstalled RPG Maker VX Ace.

Make sure you don't do one of the following:

1] Added a script

2] Added an event that makes the hero move to the left instead of something else you intended.

3] Have plugged in a malfunctioning gamepad.

4] Have a stuck key on keyboard.

I know this sounds stupid, but making sure these four is not the issue it might actually help people out, helping you.

Sometimes users experienced your problem because of such situations. ;)

Thumbs up for showing your effort to fix the issue.

Does this occur on every map? You say you remade the map but it sounds like either way there's an error with how you're handling one of the events you're placing. Or does it definitely occur independently of events?

I've switched keyboards and tried again... Upon further searching, the same thing also happens with all of my RPGXP games. I'm rather new to this, so I don't know much about scripts, haven't messed with it there. It does indeed happen on every map. Thanks everyone!

If you had searched for similiar bugs, you would have found a lot of other people where this happens.

The possible causes (in order of probability) are:

1) the old driver for a graphic tablet or a gamepad/joystick that is no longer needed by your windows (newer versions use a different driver API) and now conflicts with the input loops.

Simply deinstall all old tablet or pad drivers from your software and use the build-in windows drivers to solve this

2) defective or dirty keyboard - test it with a different keyboard

3) wrong input scripts (mouse or keyboard scripts), much less likely than the two above

Nothing to do with the game. It's all about the devices.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
