Noob Question: How do I make tiles that normally can be walked on, non-walkable?

I need to block off an area of my overworld until the late game and I can't figure out how to make trees that the player can't walk through.

How big is the area? If you are using events with images from the tileset, change the priority to Same as Characters (when you use images from the tileset it defaults to Below Characters, which means you can walk over them).

If you're not doing it that way, post a screenshot so we can see what the area looks like, and come up with some suggestions.

If you just need an invisible wall somewhere on your map, just do as Shaz says, use events without a picture on same-as-character. If you want to change the passable/not passable characteristics for your tileset(s) in general visit the database -> tilesets.

Went to the database and changed it. Thanks.

I think you misunderstood what you were told. Changes in the database on the tileset are permanent throughout the game - which means the tile will stay impassable even in the late game.
If you want a temporary block, you need to use events.

Why not just use the Change Tileset event function?

Have two versions of your tileset, one walkable, one not.

It could be done that way, but why pick a method that is more complicated, increases the size of the game file and requires more processing power to implement than a few blank events?
