Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm having some issues playing RPG Maker games

I got the RPG Maker humble bundle when it was going on, and just recently I decided to play some of the games that came with it. But I've been having some odd problems.

First, yesterday I tried playing Skyborn. When I first launched it, the game launched in Big Picture mode (I never use Big Picture), but the game wasn't visible. I closed out of Big Picture and the game was windowed and playable. So I played it for a bit.

Then today, I tried to start it up and it caused my monitor to lose signal from my computer. I got the "DVI No Signal" message. Then it came back on, but the game was minimized in the taskbar and wouldn't come up. I had no choice but to close it. So I tried again, and this time I got a black screen (but the no signal message didn't come up) and then I was back on my desktop and the game was stuck minimized again.

So I tried another RPG Maker game - To The Moon. This also had the black screen > minimized effect.

So then I restarted my computer.

Then Skyborn came up on the first try, but was fullscreen and I had to alt+enter to get it into a window. No big picture this time. I played for a little bit.

But now, a few hours later, I try and launch it and I'm back to getting the black screen > minimized effect.

I believe Skyborn uses RGSS2, but I don't know what To The Moon uses. Also none of my non-RPG Maker games have this problem and my own VX Ace-made game does not have this problem.

So what's the deal?

I would assume that their downloads had been damaged, try if the problem gets solved when deinstalling and reinstalling them.


I know I had no problems when I tested skyborn several weeks ago, and all other possible causes would also effect other programs, not only them.

I verified the game caches and they both came up with no problems.

I wonder if it could be your screen resolution? Black screen, flickering between image and no image, are problems I come across when my resolution is not something that can be easily used by a game, or if my graphics card can't handle the resolution.


I'd try


1 - seeing if you have the latest graphics drivers for your card installed


2 - try changing your resolution to other settings

I'd try

1 - seeing if you have the latest graphics drivers for your card installed

2 - try changing your resolution to other settings

1. Graphics drivers are definitely up to date.

2. B-But then everything would look bad
