Goals for November:


- Finish the dungeons.


- Finish the optional missions.


- Start working on the second part.


Progress Report #1


- Doing some internal re-works on the engine.


- (Still) figuring out how Luna Engine draws gauges.


- Balancing the battles.

Finally finished rearranging all menus. I use most of the Yanfly Plugins, so I removed the help window from some menus because it is not necessary there. Also I added a padding to the whole menus, so that the menu does not strech over the whole screen, which looks kinda bad. So that's fixed. 


Added backgrounds to all of the menus.


Played around with step sounds and how to get them to work. Also, setup a system that allows to play background sounds, like river etc.


Goals: 


I don't want to set a lot of goals, because I have a lot of stuff to do for University this month, sadly. 


I want to start writing the plot down, at the moment it's just all in my head. 


I wanna event a small system like a blacksmith where you can upgrade your weapon, like the one in Suikoden IV.

Lots of good goals and some great progress from everyone already, that's awesome to see.  :)


I've gotten my demo to the 'good enough' stage, everything seems to be working right I just need to finish adding some item descriptions.  So if all goes well I may be able to get a game thread up this weekend (fingers crossed I don't find another big issue as I post it).

@ksjp17It is some sort of utility belt that could be called an omnipurse an omniwallet or a Marquisane if I decide to name it that way but it will be the "A LOT Itemned" called a Marquiseomething.


It looks like a matted and leathery Japanese large belt that carries all my things like a banana belt except with all secret compartment and hooks and holes able to carry grocery bag and trolley around you if you walk with a cane or can easily trampled by a I-bies stampede after some virtual pets to abuse in animal fights and trying to catch them all!  (I'm sure ninjas had their equivalent).  In the past that obipurse was a banana purse and a backpack and a card holder as well as dubbing very well as tool belt, first aid kit and preventive hernia belt.  Stores with employees who knows me, have an over the counter look asking if I will be good without bags and sometimes a second employee to rush behind me making my trolley charge!  When I am charged with my trolley, some un-asking folks sometimes takes it off steps in stairs causing me to crash forward by moments (and I have vertigo)!  It is only ironic that the buckles busted yesterday in my emergency exit between the 3rd and 4th floor!  But then, the trolley can carry out around 110 pounds of weight!  Some folks had not so much fun after asking if they could help me along the way... LOL  "BWAAAAAAAH IT'S so HEAVY!!!"  "Yeah now you know..."  LOL


All right, it'll help me heal my fingers to end tail that dragon tonight!  I was worried Daughter Cat was sick in the last days of the last month; turned out that she was WORRIED-sick about me not having enough to eat!  We both are worried sick to one another!   She purrs like an helicopter now and is kinda mentally nose kissing you all folks!

I should probably work on a title screen. And get far enough in my game so I can start with some animated cutscenes. Prepping my voice even now. Dang, this is going to be so embarrassing, but it's going to be fun nonetheless. And, I guess that's all that matters.

Well, changing goals again.


Thinking about putting the player on a forest filled with mobs and release as a demo for testing combat... thoughts?

@Lantiz: It'll take time to get it there. Myself, I'm waiting until I get all the sprites done (which I'm working on slowly inbetween everything else).


@PsychicToaster: Or, you could just rename your game to "The Library" *ducks*


@Marquise*: I don't know what an obipurse is, but hope you get it fixed soon!


@OmegaGhost: Bet it will be nice to have that exam done though!


@MiniTitan: That's is the recommended way to go about it. Good luck with that first project!


@ksjp17: Honestly, no idea. I'm trying to trim it down to 4 - 5 per town, but a few towns you go back to in various Chapters so some are getting more than others as a result. Seeing as I have about 12 towns (though a few are ruins) I guess that makes it 60 side quests or so?


@AceOfAces_Mod: If you manage to figure out how the Luna engine draws the gauges, you should let us know. I've postponed using it for that reason myself.


@waynee95: Good luck with the goal! Just don't do what I did in school and put off finals until I had the entire plot written down. Let's just say I did some finals *very* by the seat of my pants that term.


@hiddenone: Welcome aboard! Funny thing is I was just editing a map that uses your ducks for ACE and then you posted on here.


@HexMozart88: Depends on how far in the game you are. I still haven't done my title screen as I wanted to wait until the plot was done. Now it is on the "Do it soon" list.


@Lantiz (2nd time): I made an MV game where it was just 20 levels with mobs of enemies, straight line dungeons (so one long hallway of monsters), used it for balancing my battle system. It might work for a demo too if you are clear about what is in it.


11.5 Update: Drew a couple of little maps that are needed for side quests, and placed the next few secret rooms (got 9 now, 40 total are planned). These last two were tough as they are in optional areas so I had to think of something that the player might still want if they find them in say Chapter 7 instead of Chapter 2.

I'm commissioning so I wont have all I need so soon. And looks like the guy who was working with me is missing...


I'll try to start with is done.

Sounds like a nice way to test combat and map generation.

I finally make my appearance for this month! That said, November is not the easiest month for me to set goals for, in fact, it's by far the hardest.


My goals for such a busy month are simple, which is simply to make progress for as many days as is possible, hopefully to have something to show for it by December.


Best bet: Nov. 25-30 (Black Friday is not an issue at a supermarket. It's Black WEDNESDAY you have to look out for). So-so: Nov. 1-3, 4-10, 11-17. Worst: Nov. 18-24 (Thanksgiving) Maybe no activity whatsoever for the 23rd and 24th. Like I said, the worst month of the entire year to set goals for.


Hopefully, progress can continue, regardless, for everyone as the year 2016 comes to a close.

@AceOfAces_Mod I too would like to know how you're going to do that with Luna.  I really wanted to use that script as I had all sorts of ideas which I would have liked to implement, but there were several things that I just couldn't figure out, and I suspect that it's now too late to go back and try and implement it.  But maybe for another time.


@waynee95 Perhaps a screen shot of what your menus look like now?  


@hiddenone Nice to see you back on the goals thread. I'm looking forward to seeing what your game thread looks like.


@Marquise* That obipurse sounds like the bag equivalent of the Swiss Army Knife - capable of doing just about anything. Good luck with the next phase of your dragon.


@HexMozart88 How much VA will there be in your game?  Just cut scenes, or will it extend further?


@Lantiz Better edit them now rather than later when there will be even more.


@Marsigne It's nice seeking you post again, even if it is just one short explanatory one.  Hope you're keeping well.


@bgillisp 60 side quests, 40 secret rooms (keels over in exhaustion just at the thought of that much work). You don't believe in short-changing the player! 


@VideoWizard I think November is a tough month for a lot of people.  But I think even having a modest goal is a great support to actually doing something.


My update


Just mapped a few interiors for the town as a break from heavy eventing.  I'm wondering if I might have to rethink how I'm going to scale weapons.  Don't feel entirely happy with what I've got, but I can't put my finger on why.  Perhaps it will become clear once I start using the next level up weapons.

@bgillisp Thanks! Yeah, I want to focus on university stuff really hard this term. Have a few things to catch up on from older terms... my first term was not that good because I was overwhelmed with how the things work at university. Now, I am in 5th term by the way.


@HexMozart88 Fun is the most important thing, isn't it? :D

@ksjp17 Just for animated cut scenes. But they're somewhat long, and since I have to do both male and female voices, I'm practicing my voice ranges.

@PsychicToaster: I think there's more reading in Planescape than Pillars of Eternity, but that's my $0.02, for what it's worth.


@Lantiz: Do you have a way to generate the random maps yet? Or is that part of the goal?


@VideoWizard: I hear ya there! The holidays are always tough to get anything done as 3 different people all want you at the same place at the same time (or so it seems).


@ksjp17: Those are rough counts, though I already have listed where I want the secret rooms to go, so 40 is probably a final count there. My goal was 4 a chapter, plus 4 extra to make it a nice even number. Weapon scaling...ugh, how I hated figuring that out! Best of luck with that!


@waynee95: It does take some getting used to the university system, that is for sure!


@AceOfAces_Mod: Last optional dungeon? You close to done now?


11.6 Update: Spent today touching up the map at the Crossroads, and making some of the NPC's there final, now that I got some of my NPC sprites made (all female sprites are done except for that oddball one that I find that I forgot about, and about 20% of the male sprites at this point in time). Also placed Secret Rooms 9 - 13, skipping 12 though as it requires an area I'm not yet at in the rebalance run.

@bgillisp, no. The second part is still in development. Though the first part is ready for a release (though there are some assets to be replaced).

Of course there is, but it came out in 1999. I bring up PoE because I expect more people would know what it is, being a newer game. 


With Obsidian's new game Tyranny launching in a few days, I can already say I won't be making very much progress this month. Guuuuuuhh. Why did they have to come out with yet another brilliant cRPG just as I decide to get a move on with my project? Lol.

I dont know why I keep coming to these threads, updating for a few days and then disappearing until the one two months later, but here I am again XD


November 6th 2016:

  • The Big One. After countless hours buggering with stuff, I've finally got my magic system working mostly the way I want it to. Its messy, convoluted as hell, and only a basic shell of what I ultimately wanted, which would probably be leagues better if I delved into the coding side of it rather than running everything through common events and variables, but it will work for now. I can worry about the more complex system for my next game when I've got money to pay someone to write a neater/better plugin (Easier to implement, not taking up 110 variables and 400ish common events on its own, and capable of doing cross-element/weapon rather than being limited to just the one). This does mean that my main project is on hold, so I'm thinking of making this current one a simple dungeon crawler or something to pass the time. I can implement most of the features of my main game in a smaller scale, making it sort of a light version to get more practice in before continuing work on the big one.
  • That's about it. I lost my computer for a while and wasnt able to get any work done.  Only just got it back up and running a few days ago. That's kind of the other reason I started on a new project, my old one is on my other HDD which is on its way out, and apparently my OneDrive had been disabled so it never ended up uploading to my cloud storage. I could PROBABLY retrieve it from the HDD, but it usually takes several hours to get the damn thing to work long enough for me to even access it, so ehh. If I lose the drive its not a big deal, 95% of the work that was on that project was mostly just tinkering and properly learning the engine, and the project is the only thing on the drive that I remotely care about that isn't on OneDrive.
