Hello, I'm new to the program and hoped I put this in the right spot. If I didn't I am terribly sorry.

Anyways, what I'm needing help with is with a cut-scene. I want to have my character leave the map, to go into an inn, and have a cut-scene there, but after he leaves the inn I want another cut-scene to happen between him and the NPCs. I'm not exactly sure how to do that with the events, or if I do it some other way. I know if I add an event it will happen once he enters the map the first time, and that's not what I want to happen. I want it to happen after he has the cut scene with the inn.

Does anyone know how to do that? Again I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place and if what I'm asking doesn't exactly make sense.

After the cutscene in the inn, turn on a switch, then set the other cutscene's conditions so it only runs if that switch is on.

How would that look exactly? I'm kinda clueless when it comes to switches, I really don't understand them. Sorry I'm such a newb!

Turendo, I would recommend that you check out Andar's guide if you haven't already and practise with some tutorials :) The link is in my signature spoiler.

But as for switches, GrandmaDeb has a lovely tutorial I found useful.

I agree with Alkorri. Switches and variables are extremely vital parts to working on your game, so it's highly recommended that you try to read through some tutorials and play around with them yourself so that you can get a better understanding of them.

Either I'm having some real trouble understand this, or I'm just not doing this right.. I've read and looked over the tutorials. none of them are really helping me understand how to use the switches. >.< I'm so sorry I'm not getting this.

This is for XP, Dreadshadow ;)

Luckily, as far as switches and variables goes, XP and Ace are pretty similar.

Well I just did. I  understand how the events and such work, I'm just not sure how to.. properly input the switch to work? I've been researching all day and I'm still drawing a blank. ._. I have the inn event to cut off after it finishes so it doesn't repeat. So I don't understand how adding a switch after it will work with the other cutscene I'm wanting to make..

Again I'm sorry >_<

Most of the misunderstanding from switches comes from the fact that a control switch command alone is absolutely useless, it always requires two different parts: control switch and condition switch.

Think of it like the switches you have at your home: the switches you use to turn on the lights in your room.

The switch alone is useless without being connected to a lamp that can be turned on - if for example the bulb in the lamp is broken, then no amount of switching will get you light.

The control switch command is when you say "I'll turn the switch on or off because I want something changed".

The condition on the switch is where you say "This should happen when the switch is turned ON", and you need that part correctly as well.

If you don't know how to do that, please post screenshots of both the event where you control the switch and the event that should happen based on that switch, and we can tell you where you made your mistake.

Okay. Here is my inn cutscene.

I tried adding a switch after it on the next page thinking maybe that would make it work. That was obviously wrong. Then I tried adding it under it, again nothing happened, so it ended up looking like this.

^^^^^ The event after I added the switch.

^^^^ The cutscene I'm trying to make.

Your first problem is that you didn't do what was asked - Hollow asked you to add a control switch command, not to remove the control self-switch. For everything to work, you need both commands, and the control cutscene end needs to be before the control self switch, as the self-switch will cut off everything after it by changing the pages.

That said, there are a lot more problems with this - a cutscene should neve be on parallel process, because it isn't a cutscene when the player can still move and control. A real cutscene always needs to be on autorun.

That is also the problem with the last part - action button means that that part will only start after the player goes to that event and presses the action button..

Ok um. If I need both switches- How would the first cut scene end if the self switch isn't supposed to be before the control one? Because the inn cut scene keeps looping.

Turendo, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

If the second page is still conditioned to the self-switch as originally done, then the self-switch should end it - if you changed the second page to a different condition, then you need to change it back to be conditioned to the self-switch.

You need to remember: any control switch command alone is absolutely worthless and has no function - it always only triggers the function set by the condition on that switch.

AND you really need to get rid of the parallel processes if they're still there. A lot of people wrongly assume that a parallel process is a good thing because suddenly something works - it is not. PP should only be used for a very limited number of cases, because they have a lot of side-effects and can destroy your entire game logic if used in the wrong way.
