Npc Doesn't dissapear

Hello there intelligent internet users! I have a seriously annoying and game stopping issue, I can't make NPC's disappear! Now I have seen some topics or whatever that cover this but not really in my case. So, basically I'm trying to do something very simple. I just want the player to walk into an alley way and find this guy there that talks and then follows the player back to the house. Fortunately, I got everything else to work, but for some reason I can't get the guy to disappear! Yes I have tried self switches, and regular switches that lead to another page that is blank, yes I have tried putting both pages on autorun and only one page on autorun, etc. Please help me I'm a noob!

This event has no graphic that you can make disappear by the switch - but it does have other errors.


NEVER, never and under no circumstances, make an empty autorun like your second page. the regular "switching off" works because the page switched to is not an autorun - why would you activate another autorun (especially one that does nothing but freezing the player) with a switch after a cutscene?


If you want help in making an NPC disappear, you need to show us the event pages of that NPC.


A bit more advices:


always name your switches and variables, and you should not use the switch 001 in my opinion, because it is the default for common event autoruns/parallels and you can easily freeze your game by a mistake there. And switches and variables need to be named for yourself to know that you have used them somewhere (and where you used them),


Nothing is as deadly to bughunting as having multiple but unknown uses of switches and variables.


That said, it looks like you're a rather new user - I suggest you follow the link to the starting point in my signature and work trhough the tutorials there to get the basics of the engines.

'Erase Event' does not make the event go away forever, it will reappear when the map is reloaded.  You just need to activate Self Switch A which moves the event on to the next, blank, page. 


Erase Events are most often used for a parallel process which you want to run each time a map is loaded e.g. to show pictures, tint screens, that sort of thing.


Neither, imo, is it necessary to have the Initialize command.  If you have set up your actor correctly in the data base, s/he will appear with all the correct starting gear, levels etc.

Wow! Thank you all for replying so fast! Anyway,I pieced together what all of you said and I found out what was wrong. Turns out I wasn't supposed to make two separate events but rather one event... woops! Guess that's what I get for trusting a youtube video.... lol. Thanks guys!

it depends.  If you want to interact with the NPC and have that trigger the conversation, then a single event and a self switch is fine.  If you want to trigger it as you approach the NPC and force the player to walk a bit and then interact with the NPC, you would need to use two events and a switch rather than a self switch.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
