Hi all,

I want to be able to talk to a sprite on the first floor of my house, and after I speak to them I want that sprite taken away for good after I leave the room. Also, once I have talked to another sprite on floor 2 I want the sprite on floor 1(the one that vanished!) to reappear somewhere completely different on the map!

Hope I explained it right.

Any help really appreciated!

Dave

Sounds like you need to do some basic tutorials. All of what you're after can be accomplished with multiple event pages and switches.

Events don't transfer to other maps, so you'll have to create the same event in the map you want it to re-appear.

Also the first thing you asked is one of the most basic features of the programs; switches. Please read up on some beginner tutorials.

Hi,

Which basic tutorials do you recommend for me? I've just been using youtube so far!

Thanks for quick reply(this was aimed at the first reply, but applies to the second reply too!) :)

You could give Sprite 1's event 3 different pages.  Make page 2's condition Switch2 = On.  Make page 3's condition Switch3 = On.  Have the first page turn Switch1 On in your event commands after you talk to the Sprite.

Then make an event that happens when the player leaves the room that checks if switch1 is on.  If it is, turn on Switch2 - and make the second page of Sprite 1's event blank with no graphic, that way it looks like it has vanished.

Then turn on Switch3 after you talk to the Sprite on the second floor.  That way you can make Sprite1 reappear by adding a graphic to page3 and move it to where ever you want.

Variables would work for this too.  Doesn't have to be switches.

Very helpful, thank you :)

If you say it's easy then you could of replied like the other member did with a simple solution, instead of me taken potentially hours tracking down exactly what I need.

Maybe you should try answering questions instead of just saying "go and look for a 2month thread".

brewster, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you. Use the Multiquote button if you want to quote several posts at once

Please don't be rude to people who are helping you. There is nothing wrong with suggesting you look at a few tutorials instead of hand feeding you (you may note I was not the only one to do so), and the previous reply did not have all that content when I made my post - in fact I don't think it was there at all (I usually have many threads open at once, and do not refresh every one to see the latest replies before I post) ;)

First visit to these forums and I'm already made very unwelcome by a moderator, I've just spent quite a few quid on this product and I expect good friendly support, not warnings after making 2 or 3 posts.

Don't reply Shaz as I don't want to argue, just bare in mind what I have said, and I hope the other mods do too.

EDIT: I didn't mean to offend, I just find it a little annoying when someone answers, go and search for the information. The reason I open a thread is to get an answer in it that relates specifically to my problem, I don't want to spend ages trying to find a thread that resembles my problem. The member who replied has probably solved my problem, and I'm sure they didn't mind doing so.

I understand that you just want someone to give you the answer. But switches and event pages are a VERY BASIC building block of making an RPG, and while someone telling you what to do in this situation will let you solve this problem, reading up on tutorials will give you a much greater insight into what they're all about, which will help you solve future problems without having to come for help. Also, your "specific problem" is not that unique, and has already been asked by dozens of other people and answered, so searching could have brought up any of those.

We really are a very friendly forum, and as you look through posts you will see just how much the mods (including myself) do help people. We go a great deal out of our way to do so, but we really like people to search first and try things on their own. We're all busy (everyone on the forum, not specifically mods) - we have jobs, we have our own games to make, and the sheer number of people posting help requests makes it near impossible to answer each one in great detail. In this case, I could give you a step by step, or I could point you to tutorials that do exactly the same thing.

I still encourage you to look through the tutorials forum - there's a Switches & Variables topic just a few below the pinned threads. There are also tutorials on the RPG Maker Web blog, and there's also the help file that comes with the engine.

The reason why sometimes it's neccessary to refer someone to reading tutorials is because in a lot of answers, you need to know what the answer is talking about.

RPGM is extremely versatile (there are scripts that turn the engine into a platformer game or an action RPG), and as a result a lot of commands can be used in different ways.

Just pointing you to "click here, click there" might solve your current problem, but if you're missing the basics to understand why that solves the problem, that will cause more problems in the long run than you taking the time to learn the basics - because you'll be asking the same question in slightly other variants again and again (that happened before, it's not just us imagining things).

The most basic tutorials are those officially given by the company in this site's support section - those are even more basic than most of the videos, because in videos you can only be shown "click here". Click on "Support" on the top of this page and navigate to the tutorials for your game's version.

There are also a few topic collecting links to tutorials and helpful material on this forum:

To summarize what Andar said: "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime."

That is why both Shaz and I told you to look up tutorials. When you a genuine problem with events, and not due to lack of knowledge, we are happy to help, and have helped many, many others before.

Also ... Do not tell moderators what to do, thank you very much. Next time is a real warning.

That said, I'm closing this, because it can easily be solved by reading at least one beginner tutorial about switches.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
