Hey everyone, I'm currently pondering on the idea of fully implementing real time NPC routines that go by a day / night cycle into my game. I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on this - is this something you would enjoy if it worked relatively bug-free and done well? Like, having an NPC wake up, walk to his house door, walk out of his house, go to the inn, go to work, go back home, eat dinner, and then go to bed. Obviously that's just one example, but they would be all interesting in their own little way.
Location and dialogue obviously changes and I was thinking of having side-quest givers following a slightly different procedure. For example, an NPC might give you a certain quest at night time, asking you to break into someone's home to steal something for them. But should you choose to not accept the quest after an extended period of time, the NPC will actually try and break in himself, and if you catch the NPC at the right time you would see him breaking into the house all in real time. Also, maybe another NPC might decide to visit another town, which would mean you might even meet him on his way their via the world map.
Basically, as close as you can get to Oblivion / Skyrim NPCS in RPG Maker.
I feel that this would at least give the world a more dynamic and realistic feel. At the same time, you'd still have NPC's that progress with the story.
So would anyone appreciate this kind of feature, or would you rather be "meh" towards it?
