hi!

i just started reading this thread tonight, i started with the first post, and watched all the videos in the order you released them, so i really feel ive watched the game grow without even playing the demo!

I like the dedication you have shown to making this game the best it can be, you guys are good role models for people new to rpgmaker like myself!

so here are my impressions without playing the demo yet:

*The youtube intro vid was nicely produced! a great way to add professionalism when you release the game commercially

*Great distinctive custom battle art! i like how you have decided to animate the characters as they fight, it really does make it more fun to watch

*very attractive overworld menu system with the squares, it was easy to understand right away for me just from watching the youtube vids- is it a custom menu script? im still kinda new here and have not decided on an actual menu system for my 1st game, is the one you are using available for modification? (just wondering!)

* fishing looks cool, but it seems like even though you have the custom minigame for catching the fish, it seemed you were always easily able to catch the fish, after i play the demo i will report back how it plays

*i like the idea of non-linearity very much, just having fun and exploring an island sounds great, with choices that change the outcome of the game

also, im glad to hear you found a music person! i would have jumped at the chance to help you out musically or with artwork, but i am glad you found someone!

let me know if you ever need anymore help

so i will DL the demo and play it this weekend and report back with my findings

good luck with your game, i hope it is successful when you release it commercially

Hi deaddrift! glad to read your impression on the development! to be honest your post really motivates us to become better! from the very beginning, we want to give our best at making RPGs that fit with our ideals and hopefully really fun for people to play, commercial success isn't our first priority or something we strive for, but our passion and love for RPG genre.

*The youtube intro vid was nicely produced! a great way to add professionalism when you release the game commercially

Thank you very much! actually that was my first attempt at making intro vid, so it is probably still a bit clunky and below standard, but at least it can give people a glimpse on what we have in the game through the character in the simple intro. I'll try to make a more professional vid later when we are nearing the release.

*Great distinctive custom battle art! i like how you have decided to animate the characters as they fight, it really does make it more fun to watch
It was really hard to animate them, but I think it's worth it! my aim is to make the animation really fluid

*very attractive overworld menu system with the squares, it was easy to understand right away for me just from watching the youtube vids- is it a custom menu script? im still kinda new here and have not decided on an actual menu system for my 1st game, is the one you are using available for modification? (just wondering!)
It is a custom menu script specially made by the scripter, wltr3565. I don't think it's availabe for modification yet, since the script is not publicly released. The modification itself is not really dificult, with a basic knowledge of scripting in RPG Maker, I'm sure you can made similar custom menu or maybe a better one

* fishing looks cool, but it seems like even though you have the custom minigame for catching the fish, it seemed you were always easily able to catch the fish, after i play the demo i will report back how it plays
Actually, the fishing minigame is quite complicated, every species of fish have their own characteristics when you fight with them, they only appear on certain days/weather, and can only be lured with certain bait and fishing rod. The vid I made probably doesnt' give them much justice. And sadly, there is no fishing yet in the obsolete demo.. that's why we decide to take out the demo.

*i like the idea of non-linearity very much, just having fun and exploring an island sounds great, with choices that change the outcome of the game
I'm a non-linear RPG fan mysef, specifically WRPG such as Fallout and TeS series. Probably that's what makes us decide to make this game non-linear, tin our writing there's about 20 possible ending you can have in this game. This decision also makes development time a bit longer, since we need to dedicate time to write so many possible scenarios between characters.

also, im glad to hear you found a music person! i would have jumped at the chance to help you out musically or with artwork, but i am glad you found someone!

let me know if you ever need anymore help
Thank you very much! we will surely need many help for betatesting the game later! of course we will let you know. :)

And regarding the demo, as I have written above, since the demo is very obsolete and buggy, we decided to take it down temporarily at the moment. Moreover, most of the new feature, like the animated battles, and fishing is absent in the obsolete demo. If you really want to try the old demo, just PM me and I'll give you the link. Or if you want to take a glimpse of the old demo you can watch the Let's Play, courtesy of cutegamer here:

A bump on the thread for a small update, and a heads up that we are planning to release Nusakana this year, if all goes well, and also, the new demo soon. In the dev blog, there are also a new media section containing screenshots and videos of the game in development if you are curious and looking for new screenshots/videos. And to close this post, I made an artwork for new year's greeting featuring the recruitable cast of Nusakana. Thank you for reading!

Hi, it's that time of the month again as usual, and time for new update and sneak peek!

We were planning to give you a peek on the party conversation/talk system, but since the system is still under overhaul, we decide to show you another aspect of the gameplay first, the Hunger system!

The hunger system is there to give the player a bit of survival feel and challenge on managing your inventory supplies. You can't just waltz in and out the forest while exploring without repercussion, there's a lot of things to consider and prepare before you decided to go on adventure! One of them is your party's tummy, you need to keep them full or they will get weaker, restless and even leave your party. That's why you need to stock up on food supplies, by buying them from the store, restaurant, or even craft them yourselves! yep, crafting, another gameplay element that will be included in the game!

In a nutshell the system is inspired from many dungeon crawler where you will get penalty, the more you get hungry! Here's a simple diagram on how the system works:
For more information you can take a look at the devblog article written by wltr3565 on how the system works: http://nusakana.blogspot.com/2014/01/nutshell-hunger-system.html

Thank you for reading as always! and see you in the next update post!

Hi, since most of the update in this thread mainly involved around graphics and gameplay, I thought a little peek into the sound department might be neat and interesting enough to read about. Music and sound in Nusakana is being handled by our talented composer, M4usviecr, the music itself encompassed from many genre of music, mainly Bossa Nova, Latin Jazz, and Dance/Techno, that will provide you with tropical and unique atmosphere.

The most difficult thing to tackle is the battle music and in this post, I will show you some of the example of the experiment for the music. Drawing inspiration and reference from MH3 Swing OST, We tried to recreate a battle music with the same feeling and intensity. Below is some of experiment by M4usviecr, in her attempt to make the battle theme.

NusakanaBattleAttempt3

The experimentation is, of course, far from over, and we still strive to create a music that will fit perfectly with the theme of the game. And that's about a little snippet update from me, if you want to read the in-depth article of the music creating process by the composer herselves, you can visit our blog! , mainly in this post: http://nusakana.blogspot.com/2014/01/nusakana-music-battle-themes.html

Thank you for reading, and see you in the next update post!

A bit of update on the progress, trying to make the background for battle scene at secluded beach map more lively and pretty by animating everything :guffaw:

And here's a sneak peek on what we have done so far, moving cloud at the distant and ocean waves! :

Bump! it's been months since this thread is actually updated, and yeah we are still going strong  :thumbsup-right:

So what's new?

- Revamped OP (fixing grammar and structure)

- A new facebook page for the game (yay!) - https://www.facebook.com/nusakana

- Removing many low quality videos and the opening video which contain copyrighted content

- Many new screenshots

And that's about it!

Plus here's something to make this post better:

In the spirit of #screenshotsaturday here's a new screenshot of the game!

Not really a screenshot but still....

So what's new on the dev progress?
  • We made a grave mistake of sticking with the crappy default res of 544x416, and decided to increase it to 640x480. It's rather late to decide on the change but better late than never!
  • Another new addition to the graphics:
- water reflection

- character sprite shadow

  • Making the draft on crafting mechanic and asset
That's all. For a more talkative and long description about our progress you can always visit the devlog

Bump for update!

What are we currently working on? Well there's a lot! The main spotlight of this "bump" is to showcase the newly revamped battle system. Among them is fixing some GUI and adding cut-ins for each character special skill. If you look at a few posts above, there's also a video on the old battle system scene, you can take a look at them for comparison with the new.

The screenshots:

The video in action:

Well that's all, for more info you can always check our devlog here: http://nusakana.blogspot.com/

or lurk at our facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/nusakana

See you in the next "bump"! ~~~

Hey it's a great game, the art is good, and I don't know why, but the main character face.. It's really suits the game =). Yeah, kinda love it.
The gameplay and fishing mechanism, wow, I'm amazed, how much the time you've spent for this game? But I can see there's some issue in grammar, it's not a big problem though, the point is I understand the flow, however I suggest to fix those if you're going for commercial :) . I think that's all.
Nicely done.

Actually I kinda regret about the MC face, I don't know it seems that it make him creepy haha, I'm planning to revamp the MC face too sometimes in the future.

About how much time we have spent, I think we've been working on this for almost 2 years, development is going on and off since RL stuff take priorities first. And yeah, grammar is probably my greatest concern right now, you know sometimes I feel that the dialogues I wrote is cringeworthy, and that is what I really afraid about. We are going to do an extra work on grammar checking and dialogue flow in the last stage of the development cycle, that's for sure. Thanks for stopping by BoluBolu!

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
