Script: OC Audio Encryption

Version: 1.0

Author: Ocedic

Introduction

Whoa, it's been a long time since I've posted a script.

Audio encryption for RPG Maker VX Ace! This script will encrypt your audio files and decrypt them during play.

Instructions

All instructions are found in the script.

Compatibility

This script may not work with certain audio scripts.

Important Notes (Read This!)

Before using this script, pay attention:

  • This script does not encrypt MP3s. It's suggested that you convert them to .ogg format
  • The encryption that this script uses is very simple, compounded by the fact that the source code is viewable by anyone.
  • The script is somewhat sloppily executed at the moment, due to the fact that RGSS3 keeps files open when playing audio.
  • This script currently only encrypts music and does not encrypt BGS and SE. These may come at a later date.
Basically, the script will NOT stop 100% of people from getting to your audio files. Even if a hackproof script comes into existence, people can simply record the audio from your game. If you can get over this cruel fact of life, this script does allow you to conceal your audio from the Average Joe user, which should be 95% of your player-base anyway. If you're not satisfied with this, then don't use the script.

Script

The script can be downloaded here.

I saw your script and thought awesome then when I read it does not do mp3's I was a little down as almost all of the music in my project IS mp3. and I heard that converting mp3 to ogg is not the smartest thing because they are both lossy conversions or something. Oh well. Might still use this script though.

I don't know where you got the lousy conversions idea from but you can use what I use.

Just make a temporary folder if you're going to convert more then 5 or 10 MP3's at the same time on your desktop that you want the "OGG" files to be converted to.

He probably got it from people that know mp3 and ogg are lossy formats, and converting to mp3/ogg are lossy processes.

But then again, there is a difference between technical knowledge and putting it into practice. Who really cares whether your ogg's are just SLIGHTLY different from your mp3 (or flac)? If you look at the debates there are a lot of sound technicians saying they don't hear much of a difference unless they really pay attention.

If the 2-3 MB savings is worth the loss in quality, and the dev doesn't mind sacrificing that, then that's a lot of savings on the user's end.

Yes, I had heard from several people, including people on a forum (Probably this one) saying that it was not a good idea to convert mp3 to oog.

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
