I don't know about you guys, but I found the goals and progress thread for IGMC extremely helpful. So, I wanted to start something similar for the month of October. I've decided that during that month, I am finally going to crack open my IGMC game and polish it unti I can feel completely satisified with it.

To help stay on track, I will post my goals here and progress as I go.

I hope others will join in so that we can encourage each other to make some significant progress through this month. Whether it's a part of your game, a tileset your working on, art, writing, music - let us know what you are up to and how it's going!

Yay! I loved the IGMC thread and was missing it so much!

Right now Goldstorm and I are brainstorming the plot and mythos of our next small side project that we're building with the intention to program and introduce the systems we plan to use in our first big project. I took a LOT of notes last night so I'm transcribing them into a word document at the moment.

My current goal is to actually set little goals every day and accomplish them. Tired of seeing others zip right by me and accomplish things while for one excuse or the next I end up not producing anything tangible. Maybe if I get into a habit of that I'll try tackling a 'one month challenge' or something later down the line. Right now I'm picking a specific mapping goal and technical goal per day, with a bonus goal comprised of what I'd most like to do involving the game(or sometimes something not involved with the game at all) only to be done if/when the other two goals are accomplished successfully. Of course when I feel like working well beyond that I do but the important thing right now I think is to get something done every day, since I'm really bad about that for some reason... you'd think you wouldn't need to discipline yourself so much to perform an enjoyed hobby. So I guess that's my end of September/October main goal, to take the month or so it takes to make a desired consistent amount of work habit rather than a forced goalset.

I think that sounds great Alex! I'm the same way - struggling with consistent accomplishments. That's a part of why I want this thread for accountability.

Right after IGMC I made a list of the things I needed to do, so now I need to get it done, lol. I will post my list later, broken down into specific daily goals.

But I do know what you mean about watching others surpass you. And I feel like if I could get the majority of the game done in a month, I surely can refine it in that time.

October is one of those months that, to me, seem like two or three months in one. Think about it, early October is almost as warm as late summer (especially here), yet late October many of us are talking about the rapid approach of winter and the Holidays.

Taking the small strides I've made in September to get my projects going into account:

Dragon Kingdoms Remake (working title) Goal is to make a bare bones version of the first area that can be fleshed out more in November. Given that I will be rather busy the first full week of October with Inventory work, this is probably the best that can be done.

Dawn of a New Era comic: It's October. Time for the annual Halloween storyline comic.

Dragon Kingdoms VI: Probably will at least start on the intro for this during some of the slower weeks of October (almost the last ones of the year- after early to mid-November it's nonstop until mid-late January)

Best bet is Sept. 29- Oct. 5 and Oct. 13-19 & 20-26. Worst is Oct. 6-12 (Inventory), so-so is Oct. 27- Nov. 2 (due to Halloween)

That should just about do it for October with me. I'm beginning to wonder if these progress topics are being set up during this time of year on purpose, rather than during late spring/summer when everything is wide open (maybe so we don't neglect our projects during the pre-holiday and holiday/ post-holiday periods?). At least October isn't TOO bad of a month this time around.

To start out this week I think I'd like to name these goals. I think I can do the first one this week, easily. The second goal will probably span the month.

  • Buy tiles (Pixel Myth, probably) and practice my mapping more.
It has not been since IGMC, when I made my first maps, that I have really sat down and just mapped. Maybe some pretty new tiles will encourage me.

  • Finish one or two of my backlog of piano songs, orchestrate a piano rough draft, and maybe even finish the second movement of my string concerto.
Not all those goals are necessarily RPG Maker related but a lot of my music does end up getting referenced in my projects anyway.

My goal for October is to create a mini (really tiny) halloween game.

Perfectly it would be released on the 31. October ;)

Atm it seems like I can handle the deadline, though I dont know, if I can translate it also in English in time.

Well let's see... ^^

I approve of this goal. ;)

I tried to do something like this on my blog but it didn't work so well. Doing it here like this seems like a much better idea. I work so much better when there's a GMC going on so I'll join this too.

For this month my goal is to get my ocean tiles working correctly and make all the tiles needed for making customized sailing ship exteriors. If I can get that done I'll feel like I'm actually getting somewhere with this Corsair set.

Ummm, nope not trying to purposely make it more difficult for you. In fact, it was really quite a selfish decision to do it now, as this topic was solely my decision. It's simply the fact that I've needed to finish refining my IGMC entry and I was tired of putting it off.  Seeing some people do a one month challenge during September (Alkorri, I think Sharm did a drawing one) motivated me to do it this month. Plus I have an entire week off towards the end of October, so it seemed like a good opportunity.

So no, no ulterior motives, lol.

Also, there were people who wanted to participate in the IGMC progress thread that were not participating in the contest, so I had thought I'd do this anyway. It will not likely be the last. I don't know if it wil be monthly or not, but hopefully more frequently.

All right, here is my big list. I am not sure yet how I am going to further break it down (into weekly/daily tasks) but this is my current list.

  • Fix graphics
  • Remap outside
  • Balance battles
  • Add skills
  • Fix ? marks
  • Make crafting system more clear
  • Make story flow clearer
  • More NPCs
  • More exploration

Each of these points has subpoints with more specific goals, but I'll post those as I come to them.

My goals for October are simple:

- Complete 'First Section' of my game, if not hopefully more

- Gather up a Demo and start a Proof of Concept Thread in EPF!

- Fix early mapping mistakes with my new knowledge and trim some events that where handled poorly do to lack of knowledge when starting.

-Decide for sure if im going Save anywhere but Dungeons/Save Points in Dungeons  OR Save Points Only!

Not a lot to accomplish but its a lot more then it sounds *shudder*

Well, this is the itty bittiest of maps but I did buy the tiles and I did get myself acquainted with them. It did not take much effort at all to make this small map make mah eyeballs smile, maybe ten minutes. So I think it's time to plot out something a little more ambitious. I would like to clone an army of Sharms because I mean moar

@ Manalord Oh no.  I believe you. That's a list! First bullet point alone would probably occupy me for quite some time. Hopeful to see updates!

*^_^* Hehe, you just made my day. I'd like a clone army too, or Vexed joining me. So many tiles to make, so little time! *gets back to work*

My goal is to finish Chapter 2 of my game. Got a flashback scene to finish, then a rescue mission and escape to program in, and the chapter is done. Now if only work wasn't so busy...

Good luck with your goals, everyone! :)

I'd like to finish a very short and sweet beta-version game for October, too. It would be my first RPGVXA project so its going to be quite rough and simple, but enough to start a habit of self-discipline and get some solid experience. :D

If it helps anyone, I use a process called "mind mapping" to keep track of projects. It helps me break down major tasks to smaller ones and keep an eye on the big picture. :p

I totally agree. I keep journals for my own progress tracking, but I believe the idea of working with a community adds to one's motivation. :D

Yep, I found it very helpful during IGMC and plus, I made some new friends through the process - never a bad thing.

Okay, I've organized my goals a bit more and given myself a general month long guideline. Don't ask me why this week is Week 0 but it is. :p

Week 0 - Fix graphics. (There's not a terrible much on this list right now, though I fear as I get into it, the list will grow, lol.)

Week 1 - Refine crafting system

Week 2 - Balance battles & add skills to characters

Week 3 - This will be my big week, as I am off this week. Goals: remapping; adding exploration and NPCs; adding all quests to journal (a system added since IGMC); fixing visual exploration cues

Week 4 - Create/implement a solid trade system

Great breakdown of your goals, mlogan. :) Good luck!

As they say in Japan, Ganbarimasu! ("Let's Do our Best!")

As they say in France and Dr. Who, Allons-y! :D
