Wow it's October already. How exciting! :) I've never discussed my game with anyone on here. I sometimes get a bit shy, but I'm happy to talk about it at the moment.

Well my game is called A Quest Through Time and I literally began it a few days ago :) My plans for October are to get the main mapping done and then to have all the characters in place and also to have the story started :) I have really high hopes for A Quest Through Time and I hope to have it released by next Summer :)

Thanks for this great thread @mlogan :) It's really going to help me out with my game!

Well, in light of today's excitement, I'm revising my goals a bit. I'd figured when MV came out, I'd transition the series to it, but I wasn't expecting it to be so soon. Soooo....

I believe I will spend the next 3 weeks doing super detailed planning, getting as much done as I can - all dialog written, scenes planned out, etc. And then when MV is released, start plugging away for episode 1. I could continue in Ace for this episode, but the progress is not significant, and I know that I will be distracted by MV when it comes out, so might as well make something with it instead of just playing around.

The DLC I have AND plan to use/replace are possibly PIxel Myth Germania, edited version of Rural Farm, and DS+.

My goals in this month

- Finish my final assignment and essays. Heck, revisions are pain in the arse

- Finish the current works and take other works

- Learn the MV sprite styles. I need to keep up-to-date

- (re-)Release Eremidia: Dungeon! to public. For now, I have the complete system but my friend has a plan to rework the scenes so it'll be more sensible

- Buy a new set of PC with basic, starter rig. I've sold my own laptop to keep my earnings last month. I can't work without new rigs

Eremidia-related goals

- Plan to throw the fifth prototype will be delayed, so I only need to refine the storyline so the information given to players won't be all at once.

- Balance the gameplay. So far it's 70% done

- Make achievement system

- Fix the bugs. This is the real deal.

*I can only provide mental cheering, no extra time in bottles available.

Since I found out that working with weekly goals actually works better for me than going per month, I stick with that and carry over my goals for this week I already posted in the September thread. I make them a bit more precise, though, since I already made progress on them this week:

  • progress on Ashanah's design – more precisely, prepare at least the lineart for her design so I get that out of the way
  • collect and prepare more architecture reference material – more precisely, make something moodboard-ish to help with deciding on things for the intro area
  • more work on story-related things – more precisely, note down which parts need to be rewritten and prepare notes as to how things have changed

Progress Report #1:

-Planning the settings for save location and mouse support (variables and method).

-I'm thinking of recruiting a writter for the story. I can't continue the story (possibly I burned out).

Goals carry out from September. I am also attending a local conference organised by TEI of Athens for Computer Science, so I will maintain radio silence until evening.

My progress :


- I finished the eventing in the military base at the start of mission 11.


- I drew the sleeping mode of one character and the dark aura killing machine mode of the second one.


Next should be creating a new tileset for a brownish dried desert (with some kind of dry mud), and eventing the rift that will separate the party in two.

First time I'll be posting in the goal thread, maybe that will be the kick in the butt I need to fight procrastination

#1 design in GCH with wild steam material the NPCs to populate the 4 zones of my Chicago hub (not based on real Chicago)

#2 event the action happening in Chicago hub.

#3 map the southern states swamp lands

#4 event the swamp lands action

#5 balance the first Dragon fight.

Game is a steampunk/cattlepunk fantasy about 2 bounty hunters best friends named Jesus and Judas in the after years of the American civil war.

Working title: the ballad of Jez and Jude: Adventures in the Wild Wyrm West.

On a more personal note, complete my move from Ireland back to France.

October 1st, Progress:
So...I may or may not have completed one of my goals today, lol. I already had 2 of the 7 party members' skills planned out, and when I sat down to work I was only intending to finish 1 or 2 more. But then I got carried away and...finished all of them.  :blush: I'm still calling these placeholder, though. There's still a possibility that some of them may need some major changing and reworking later on.
 

Here's one of them, as an example--she's meant to be a tank-y character.
 
Since that happened, I also decided to go ahead and do one of my nice-to-haves and get that out of the way. So, the encounter system got evented as well! :D

@Schlangan: Tis the season for party separation, as I just did that in my game too.

@Ace_of_aces_mod: Whenever I hit that burnout point, I do one of three things: 1: Playtest the game from start to finish. Sometimes once I see what I have so far it comes to me how to connect it. 2: Take a break and play another game from start to finish. Sometimes the unwind is what is needed, or 3: Work on those "I put them off til later tasks, I guess now is later." Maybe one of those will work for you?

@Everyone else: Good luck meeting your October goals!

10.1 Update: Spent today drawing the underground map for the military base. Also came up with the monster list that will inhabit this underground monster den of evil. Now I just need to event it.

For tomorrow, it looks like I got a lot of eventing to do as I mapped a lot while out sick, and these maps need events. Will either try to event everything through the military base, or re-event the intro, now that it has a full, proper map. I'm leaning to the first myself, as that's where my focus is at this moment in the story.

  • Work on more resources - at some point I'll make more tiles!
  • Finish my alchemy system - I should be able to tidy everything up if I focus
  • Sort out music for my games 
  • Figure out how to make a video tutorial

Well then lets scrap last month's list! It's October (optimist as I am I expect more tricks than treats this month), so who's for beating the bitmaps of an $Evilgod?


Spoilers for the faint of hearts about felines;

(I risk all month seeing Mommy cat in my meat fridge when I go searching for chicken and fish and all meat she would had liked to put her two fangs on if she wasn't so sick in the end, I have to apologize to her for troubling her bodily rest! Well, not sure if it is a good sign; when she died in my arms her eyes stayed fixed open on me, then I managed to force close them, I got her washed down on the balcony chair and her eyes went wide opened and all vets told me it was impossible to close a cat's eyes in death and then, when she is in a giant vacuumed clothes plastic Ziploc on a pile of cold meat, her eyes are finally closed!
No lies...I went paying half the vet's money, when asking to keep some for incineration and keeping the cremains to mix with clay and do a catnip flower pot with it so she have her daughter's visit and as much flowers she wanted in life (Which made Awwwwww :3 to the receptionists), well I was told that yeah it wasn't illegal to keep her in the freezer in a vacuum sealed giant Ziplocs for clothes and not to worry for the eyes as they should remain opened up in cat! Open.... Wait she is stiff solid now and they are... closed? I putted her there rigor mortis eyes opened and... she... errr... no wait I had to clean her up she released all her fluids meaning she was dead ... was she? Well until next month/money, there is never too late for a miracle... 0.o Zombiecat? Is that in movies?


Well at least I know where to call and... that she just will be too transferred freezer before the actual cremation. I should re warn the vets about, mystery open/shut eyes! Also, alive she putted herself on fire a couple of time trying to caress with her cheeks and fur candles, before I remembered someone around screaming when she saw saw her tail in fire and me casually just grabbing the base and sliding to the top so it is extinguished as if it was normal and the person kinda... 0_0??? So, now I kinda remember that she wasn't exactly hating fire either so the kinda weird "burning her" feeling kinda passed well.


Oh... And as cat inheritance; I gave freely the rest of her steroids to the clinic so the next poor person with a tight budget and a cat or dog in need for it would had them free!)
I kinda did my monthly IRL essentials; hope I got all covered! My feet and legs hurts!

I'm getting more and more inclined to follow your example and set myself weekly goals, especially while RL is so mixed up.  Will you be posting Ashanah's design when done?  I like seeing what you come up with.  So that's a purely selfish reason.

Burn out on story is fairly common.  I'd suggest just leaving it for now and spend time doing all the necessary polishing on the maps, events etc that you already have.  Give your mind a rest.  I'd also suggest just playing at least a couple of demos of other (RM) games so that you see other ways of doing things.  Even better if you do a couple of full games.  I think one of the risks of game making is that we get so focused on our own project that we neglect what other people are doing, so cutting ourselves off from inspiration.  The reason I suggest RM games is that it is helpful to see what others are doing in the same engine, as that can be more directly relevant.

Sounds interesting.  Are you using Wild Steam resources?  And good luck with your move back home.  Having just done that myself, I know what it's like.

My update

Mapping and tile editing.

Now that Shaz has done a converter, I am seriously torn about whether to switch to MV or not.  I've pre-ordered anyway, but I can't decide if this is a serious distraction or a great opportunity.  I've only got about 30 minutes of game play done, so it's not a huge amount, but when I think of all my tiles and private commission scripts, I dunno if it's possible.  I'd have to rethink some of my game mechanics, unless I can commission someone to port a couple of scripts.  I'm going to have to spend some time thinking about this and making enquiries - which could just end up a huge waste of time.

Wow, the second goal sounds more like a wish than a goal...

@ksjp17: One thing you could do is make a backup, import, and see what else is needed to properly import the game over to MV. I think I'm going to do that with my game, just to see what else would be needed for a full import.

@nitenman : Welcome in the thread. Indeed posting your goals and progress is kind of motivating.


@Hollow : Nice progress. Defining skills is important, the balance will come along when you'll test them in actual battle.


@bgillisp : I had no choice since my system is made for 6 heroes at once, and the current group was made of 9 people x) By the way I'd like to take a look at your military base to compare with mine :D


@hiddenone : I'm still waiting to see that alchemy system :D


@Marquise* : What's an $EvilGod ? A rich malevolent god ?


@ksjp17 : The thing is that the dark aura killing machine is a hero too, just reaching frenzy when his hunger increases too much. The two new characters have afflictions; one can fall asleep at any time while the other one might go in frenzy, becomes uncontrollable but far stronger. As for the converter, wait. Conversion isn't a bad idea, but sometimes it is better to redo than simply converting, as you can miss new functionalities. (It is even more the case for me as I would go from XP to MV)


My update :


Many things to do at work today, so not much progress; I did the beginning of the tileset for the new area the party is teleported in. I also started eventing the scene. Here's a screen of the current group. An dry area.

It's been only a few days since october started, but since I want to keep updating this every friday, I'll post today^^

Yeah, that's it. I hope my back gets better soon so that I can work more TT.TT

Quickie Progress Report:

-Today I went again to the conference organised by TEI of Athens, and I have returned home @ evening. It was exhausting, but worthwhile.

-Published a public preview for version D0.10 (current build: 20151002). I'll publish the release notes  and additional info asap.

@BlackRosemii: Maybe you need a new chair? Or something to stretch it out? I was having back pain in May - July, it seemed I needed new shoes. Once I got them, the pain went away within a week.

@Schlangan: I'll have to post the map next time. Though, my base is mostly destroyed, and has a nice big crater taking up most of the north side.

@Aceofaces_mods: 0.10? I'm guessing that is how you are counting your current game?

10.2 Update: Spent today eventing the cave under the military base, and the military base. The base itself is pretty bare, as most of it is destroyed, though there are a couple buildings the party can poke their head in. The area underground is a monster infestation though, and the party has a choice of whether to take the short route (but have to fight a boss) or the long route (no boss, but a lot of random fights).

Now I need to draw up the next city, as the game can now be played all the way to the base, and the party can get what they are after (transportation). Plan is to paper draw it up next, might even map the area the party enters in tomorrow if I still have time.

@BlackMii: Work is work, as little as it may be. If it contributes to any amount of progress, I'd say it counts as good work. Not work well done, tho. That's a different thing.

@Sokita: I think that's the joke

@Shenlong: Looks a bit empty. It may very well be me, the one bastard that loves to fill even the last space with something. In any case, progress = good. You = progress, therefore You = good, I think. I've never good with maths.

@Kali17: Personal advice? Don't switch to MV. Not yet. If you feel like you should, be patient. I don't really know the state of affairs with this new engine, but by experience, moving projects tends to mean trouble. Moving projects days after the engine has been announced tends to mean BIG problems.

Goals as of October 2nd week:

Re-revisit the Trials of Transcendence document. Now that the rec post has gone through, I must make sure everything is satisfying/in order.

I've been thinking on doing a couple more modern fantasy bustshots. I'm gonna have to take a look at a couple of tutorials, but I'd like to have another set done by the end of the next week.

Meridian's Travel is still on hold, so I can't do anything with it.
