If you're still wanting to work for free in order to increase your chances of finding projects (Or to be generous), why not make a "Pay what you can above x price" option available for special music say, tailored to fit specific demands of a client. Fore free, anyone can use specified pot of music. For x donation, anyone can use another (More complex/lengthy) specified pot of music. For something project specific/tailored - have a base price (This can be small) and scale up. Create a bulk plan for complete OST scoring that is indie-friendly.

There's nothing stopping you from being versatile in your prices to get experience quickly.
