Hello everyone, I've noticed that Dual-Wielding is quite inflexible, being that the second slot is entirely a weapon slot.

What I want is the second slot to be an 'offhand' which will be able to use shields, and weapons without the rigidness of dual-wield or no dual-wield.

so if the actor can switch whats in the offhand from a shield to sword or vise versa

the regular setting is weapon & shield.

what you can do is prevent the equipment of shields by locking the shield slot.

if you want to set an item to be used along with a sword, try setting it to equip in the shield slot.

you can give ATK values to armors.... shouldn't be hard for you to disguise an armor as a weapon.

if you want to rename the slot to something other than "weapon" or "shield", you'd probably need some coding.

I was personally toying with the idea of maces & orbs for clerics, or sword & mace for warriors,.... but scrapped the idea in the end.

I was adjusting another system which allows for mages to equip a sigil that boosts magic power, but in the end it all comes down to it being another type of "shield".

Re-defining the shield type to it's own type and adjusting each characters equipment, solved the problem.

I think you are misunderstanding the request.


The OP wants the player to make the decision whether the second slot should be a weapon or a shield. So if they have a sword in one hand, they could have either a dagger or a shield in the other. However, the dagger could also be used in the first slot, so it needs to stay as a weapon, not a new type.

well then, make the shield a weapon type and use dual wield?

what I mean is, it can probably be done through some creative use of the item types without resorting to scripting right away.... it all depends on his gameplay settings.

I tried your plug-in, it works well, thank you for the offer, but it doesn't quite match up.

In the game there are two characters who can use swords and shields, but one can dual wield if they wish while the other cannot, and they can equip the same shields. That's why I wanted an 'off hand', so certain characters could dual wield or not but still have be consistent with the non-dual wielders. Preferably the plug-in would have an 'offhand' tag for actors.. xD
