I have had this issue before and am not sure if it is a bug. If an image is too small, it will not always render, at least for me and seemingly for you.

That goes in a tileset (B, C, D or E) or you add an ! before the file name.

I believe @Solwern is correct, although (if XP's resource standards are like Ace's) you need to add a $, rather than a !, at the start of the filename... and you also need to change the canvas size so that it's 96x128 (3x as wide and 4x as tall). Make sure your 32x32 graphic is at the upper-left corner. Then choose it for the Event graphic, and make sure to set Walking/Stepping animations to OFF.

The reason it's not working for you now is that it thinks your 32x32 "Character" graphic is actually a set of 96 character graphics, so it's taking a very very small section of your image (possibly a transparent section) and using that as the event graphic. Read about the Resource Standards for Character graphics in the manual.

Guys, this is XP support. Character graphics are 4 columns by 4 rows, and there are no $ or ! at the start of filenames.

You need to change the canvas size to 400% of what you currently have (so 128x128 pixels), keeping the existing image in the upper left corner. Then you should be able to select it for an event graphic.

Thank you Shaz.. worked! however, only one issue.. i try to get the event to simply show text.. but when player touches it nothing happens - even tried setting it to "through" he won't go through it.. so player touch, action button, through.. nothing works :(

i don't think it's because it's a character.. there are other things in the list other than characters.. so i dunno

Then show us a Screenshot of the event page. We can't tell you where you made an error without seeing the error...

If your event has more than one page, show all pages. Make sure to include the entire event window, not just the event commands.

it's just a simple event.. show some text for the moment - there shouldn't be any issues..

It won't solve the problem, but you will need to set it to Direction Fix.

If you want the player to stand ON the event in order to interact with it, turn THROUGH on. Otherwise they should be able to interact with it by standing next to it.

Action Button trigger will require the player to actually press the space or enter key when standing on/next to the event. Player Touch just requires you to walk into/over it. You have to actually attempt to walk on it - can't just go up to the tile next to it.

So if it's not working, you'll need to tell us the exact settings you are using, and the actions you are taking for that attempt. You've said you tried all the different triggers, but didn't state what you did when playing with the trigger set that way.

Do you have other events that are working okay?

Do you have any added or changed scripts?

i haven't added or changed any scrips.. my other events like chests and doors and such work fine.. it's just my normal character walking around.. and nothing i have done has worked.. even have farming working with events.. although i hate timing cause you can't use wait cause even then the player can't move til time is up.. :/

k, with direction fix - it doesn't matter if it's player touch or action button.. it only works with action button.. so even if i have it set to player touch.. i have to hit the enter button to get the text.. so odd!

also, how come events only use graphics listed in the graphics/characters folder? you would think it would also list graphics/icons and such.. everything actually.

ok, going back to a normal event as any other.. the paw disappears when showing text.. and then reappears after you close text - this is so f***** up!

yeah, I did tell you you'd need to have direction fix.

Character sprites are usually 4 rows of sprites for the same character, facing different directions. When you interact with an event, it turns to face you, which means it uses the sprite from the appropriate row of the character sheet. If you don't HAVE an image on that row (or have a different image), then it will change to something else when it turns to face you, unless you interact with it from a single specific direction.

Icons and pictures are all different sizes, and not formatted correctly to be used by events, as you have already discovered.

Set to player touch, you SHOULD only have to walk into it for it to trigger. But you've got it working, and since there's a sprite, it's probably better that you use action button.

F***, I promised myself not to make overlong intros anymore, but the dialogues are again getting out of hand in a very visual novel kind of way, and there's only two fights against bats in between them...well, at least there's going to be a proper area with fights after this intro sequence. And the intro is a bit more lively with several locations and different scenes.
It's been crossed in my mind several times already. But I've been thinking about writing my art journey from the very beginning to what I've become today. Would anyone be interested in reading? I wonder.

Time to wake him up again.
*Sigh* I guess I'll actually do something now ''puts on lofi hip hop radio''
