hello guys/girls,

i'm new here, so i hope i'm not in the wrong place to ask this.

i know that the rtp that came with the rpg maker are not allowed to be used on other game maker, i've also read that resource with the same style with the rtp are also under the same license, is it true ?

actually i'd like to buy the 'old school modern' resource pack or the 'ds' resource pack, and i also want to be able to use them on my other game maker, so, are they also fall under this license that i can't use any of them on another game maker ?

from what i saw, the 'old school modern' has their own style while the 'ds' style are similar with rpg maker vx.

and how about the rpg maker 2003 ?, it's not in the website anymore but i know some people are still using it, what license is it under ?

please help me out of this.

thank you.

nb : sorry for my bad english

RPG Maker resources are for RPG Maker only. That includes RMDS/RMDS+ and Rm2k3.

If a product has Non-RM License option, it means you can use them outside RPG Maker. RMDS/RMDS+/RM2k3 and Old School Resource pack doesn't have one so they're RPGMaker only.

it should have one but it seems that it never happened.

also since your question was asking about rm2k3 specifically it should be fine to use it since it's tecnically an rpg maker even tho degica doesnt officially support it.

thank you for the fast response, and that brings me to the next question.

1.

let's just say somebody make a character set or tile set similar to the rpg maker rtp style, different but the style is similar (i hope you get what i mean), and that somebody allowed people to use it freely as they want. did those resource also fall on the same license as the rtp ?, who has the license then, the resources creator or enterbrain ?

2.

also, is there any way we can use any of the resources outside the rpg maker ?, i don't know, for a price or some condition ?, because i swear i've seen some android games using the vx rtp, or is there any way perhaps sometime in the future those resources will have a non rm license ?

3.

how can i tell if one product has a non rm license ?

thank you.

This will depend on the degree to which what that person made differs from the original RTP. If the creation process of said materials didn't involve a lot of tracing, then said person should be safe.

I'm just gonna assume you mean the RTP resources here. Legally, you are not allowed to use RTP resources outside of RPG Maker, since they're, to a degree, RPG Maker's unique selling proposition. Games you've seen using RTP resources (or resources that look close) that don't seem like they were made using RPG Maker, are most likely using them illegally. I know for a fact that Apple and Google do not check for copyright infringements in their approval process.

There used to be a smaller button in those products' store pages that leads you to the checkout screen for the non-RM license, but I can't seem to find them anywhere anymore. I'll let other people answer this.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
