Right. It means producing extremely ugly graphics and claiming that's a stylistic choice rather then laziness and lack of talent.
Seriously please either explain yourself in technical terms on why you think this is bad, or do us a favor and f*ck off. People like you contribute nothing but harm and discouragement to the artists who work hard for the community.

I think they have a unique style and provide a nice alternative to the other tilesets available out there. Also they do have a slight "Pokemon or Earthbound" feel to them.

I haven't done any tiles this good or even close so I think the effort Jason took to bring this set out and then releasing them for any and everyone to use is quite amazing.

So what they aren't perfect, is anything? They are pretty damn close. Can't wait to see more sets!!

So, thanks to a friend, I got the set as a gift and now I'm working on making description text files for the various tiles since some of them can be quite confusing! :dizzy:

As soon as they are done, I'll upload them as an attachment for anyone to download who has the pack.  Should help to identify just about everything. :)

EDIT:

Erk...some of these tiles in A5 I just don't get.  I've contacted the artist and hopefully he'll provide some insight as to what exactly they are so I can do them proper justice.

EDIT #2:

OKAY!  So, ALL tiles have been named and I'm sure some are mis-labeled, but I did the best I could.  I've also included a demo with two maps, common events for gameboy music fading and screen fading AND all tiles with passability done.  Some are also probably not right, but you can fix those yourself.

What is NOT included is the graphics for the demo (you MUST have purchased the resource pack and then copy them into the demo's graphics folder in order for this to work properly), and two pieces of gameboy music from Final Fantasy Legends due to them technically being ripped from a commercial handheld game.  For the music, you can either record your own NES/GB music, loop it and use that or head over to my blog site and pick them up there (link in signature).  As a bonus, I included a "Transfer" sound effect for free that is completely of my own design using the Paragon5 Beyond Tracker (Gameboy Music Tracker Program) that you can use in your projects if you so desire.  All I'd want is credit for the use of the sound effect (commercial & non-commercial).

Oh and special thanks to DP3 for his code snippet to adjust the currently playing BGM volume using a script call.

It's provided in the attachment or on my site with music included (no graphics).  Enjoy!

Thank God for this pack.  My current project is in a sort of retro style but I had to resort to making my own graphics, which were... sub par, to say the least.  This stuff's wonderful.

This is looking to be a great starter pack. The resources definitely resemble old school GBC games like Link's Awakening and Pokemon. The retro-lover in me is screaming to buy this, and buy this soon!

Here we go!  A tech-demo video of the tileset at work, but in limited use (somewhat).  Outside area and inside a home.  Outside music and sound effects were made using Paragon5 Tracker (Gameboy Music Tracker), inside music is from Final Fantasy Legends and the scripts used are from DP3 for volume changes, ModernAlgebra's ATS Formatting, Yanfly Cursor (which for the Save menu, it won't show up) and the various changes to the menus are done by me using core script edits (mostly to Window_Base and Window_Message).

The Window Skin is NOT available in the pack, that is something I made for this, so don't expect it in the pack.  As for releasing it, maybe.  We'll see.

For now, enjoy the graphics in the demo video.  Also, in case you're wondering about the passability, that was done using event sprites since there's no script that I could find that changes passability of specific tiles on the fly using region codes, switches, etc.

Thanks guys and big thanks to the artist Jason.  He really made a great pack and I'm glad to have it and to have made that demo video.  I can't wait to churn something out with this pack. :D

that is the end of this conversation, and anymore posts from you in this thread will get removed and you'll get an official warning
Dear moderators, please stop bullying around. Banning people for saying the truth, just because you don't want to hear it? Seriously? There are rules on these forums and I didn't break any of them. Your behavior is abusive, immature and unreasonable.

Now, do you seriously need me to explain in technical terms why Game Boy Color level graphics are so bad? I mean, unless you're blind, you can see it yourself. But if you insist, it's the lack of color and the lack of detail. The pixels are harsh on the eyes. Staring at them for a while will cause a serious headache. The palette barely uses more than 20 unique colors. Some of those tiles are just monotonous squares. Also, this:

Need I say more?

Forum rule #1: 1. Do NOT insult or flame other users on the board.

This includes moderators. Point is, you've offended and rubbed enough people the wrong way that we've had to come into the thread to moderate. We have no problem with the truth, but you're not stating facts - just stating your opinion. And the way you're going about it is rude and insulting.

You've been allowed to express that you don't like the set, and you've explained why. I'm sure the artist has taken note of your feedback. There's nothing that needs to be discussed further, so there should be no reason for you to keep posting in the thread.

@Everyone:

This is an announcement thread for a product, and I don't want to have it closed because it got out of control. From this point onward, please refrain from commenting on and addressing Kapik's opinions.

Edit:

Yes, I saw what you posted right after this, and I have hidden it because it continues to derail the thread. I've made a note of it and will be speaking to the individuals involved. If you want to discuss it further or lodge a formal complaint, feel free to send a PM to a moderator or admin of your choice.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, but I wanted to state my opinion and see if it is biased/limited based on what [little] I've seen.

Looking at the screenshots on the product page I noticed that a lot of things had a very similar color one (buildings, factory floors, sidewalks, tops of cave/mountain areas, etc..) which was extremely reminiscent of the Game Boy generation graphics, but at the same time I noticed in each of them there were some colors which much more vibrant and seem closer to GBA (or later even, thinking about it the colors for GBA were kind of poor.. That or my screen is dying.)..

So I guess I just wanted to know if this observation applied to the whole tileset.

I was also kind of wondering if it followed any of the color restrictions of old (8-bit, 16-bit, etc..)

Thank you.

Yes, the whole tileset follows the same format.  The color is limited and is represented in 8-bit, however if you want to get technical, the GBC had a way of displaying a maximum of 2000 colors on the screen at any given time, so if it seems that it's a lot more, then it would follow Hi-Color Mode (source: Wikipedia).

Ninja Post by Lunarea!  I believe that should explain it and I have actually worked with the tiles since buying them and I can assert that the color palette is limited and is bound to the entire set.

Thanks for the video. I wasn't sure how it could be used (I only played on the first Gameboy black&white) but now I can see the potential.

I think maybe we should add that video or something rather similar (due to the copyrighted songs in djDark's video) to show it off. His video was very well done and shows off the potential perfectly.

I'll be releasing a new one with Ace Gameboy music soon.  As soon as it's ready, I'll submit it and I'd be glad to have it featured.  I just need to make Theme 6 into a Gameboy-esque fashion and it'll use that instead of the piece from FFLegends that is being used.  It will also feature a bed and nightstand that are freely available to those that own the pack. :D

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
