One Consumable Item Used Twice

I have someone give my character soup and it has two helpings. I can't figure out how to do this or if it's even possible, I looked it up on google and nothing relevant to my question has popped up. I'm wondering if maybe it's not achievable, but it just seems like something that could be done in rpg maker. I've seen way more complicated things done. Anyways, I want it where there's only one of this item in your inventory, however it can be consumed twice. I don't want it to disappear upon one use, and I don't want it to say there are two of these items in the inventory.

I'm using vx ace.

Maybe the simplest would be to have the item call a common event.
In that common event assign a variable to item (and name it)

Conditional check - is the variable less than 2?
If yes, allow the use
Add one to the variable.
Nested conditional
Is the variable equal to 2?
If yes, remove the item from inventory

Thank you, Kes! It took me a minute but your idea worked! I haven't worked with common events much so. Because the script had a lot more than what was necessary I decided not to use it, Roninator. Thank you both!

Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
