Hello everyone,

I am having trouble with my treasure chest. I will show some pictures and explain my problem below.

I want to make it so that the chest cannot be opened until the cat is in my party, but if I select condition actor: cat, the chest does not appear until the cat is in my party. Is there any way to make the chest appear before the cat is in my party and have it say "the chest cannot be opened at this point"? Thanks again.

Page 1: Chest graphic with no specific instructions so that it does "nothing" when the player interacts with it. Or put in whatever you want to happen if the cats not in the party.

Page 2: Triggered when the cat is in the party. Have this be your normal chest event that opens.

First of all, in the event screen, right click to open a menu and select the preset events. You can choose a chest and what's inside. Now open the new chest event and add "Conditions and effects" (probably sounds different in your Ace's language) and choose tab number 2. There you can select to only be open-able if the actor is inside your party (so choose your cat there). Now drag the rest of the event into the Conditional Branch. This means that if the actor is inside, the chest opens like normal, but then, there's something called the Exception and you have to create it too. Just put whatever in the Exception branch like a text box: "Hey I must get my cat first!" or something like that.

It should look like this, but in English : p

Your question (here and in the other topic) have been about several basic functions in the engine, so I think you should work through the tutorials (which are intended to show you all those things) before continuing with your game. That will speed up your future game development a lot.

Thank you kiedisticelixer and Nathanial B for your help.

Edit: I think I am still having a bit of difficulty with this, but at least the initial problem of the chest not being visible is solved. I will work around with the switches more. For a second I thought I had it and when I went to test it again it didn't work.

Andar,  I thank you for your advice. I have read some tutorials, and I will continue to work through more. I do not feel that I need to completely stop with my game however, that is just depressing:).

Believe me, it's a lot more depressing and frustrating to have to completely scrap your game and start from zero, because you made too many errors early when starting to write your game before learning how to do it correctly.
A lot of people have confirmed my experience that the first game you develop will NEVER get finished, because that first one is needed as a learning experience and to make and learn from your mistakes.

That is why a lot of game developers advice is to never start with your "dream game" but accept that you need to work on a learning game that will most probably be scrapped due to too many mistakes - and that you should not risk the frustration of being forced to scrap your "dream game", but better use a secondary or minor idea for your first (and often doomed) game project...

Read the tutorial in my signature, it'll help you speed up game development.

Andar, I do not believe that I am making my "dream game" at the moment. I just wanted to be able to open a chest after I had a certain member in my party and not prior to doing so. I did not find a previous tutorial on that, but you can correct me if I am wrong. I downloaded and played through a bit of the Crysalis game, looking at the script but none of the chests seem to be doing what I want to do. So I don't think that really helps me at the moment (of course with other issues it might). I do not want to give up on my game because it is fun for me, I am sure others may agree with your view point, but I do not see why I can't learn through experimentation and also through tutorials and asking for help.

Edit @ kiedisticelixer and Nathanial B: I  finally got it to work :D . Thank you again guys for your help. Took me around 2 hours, but everything worked out :D .

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
