I feel like this belongs in this section of the forums. This is an opinion question about my game that is in progress right now.. I've been going back and forth on whether or not to get rid of this option in my game. But basically I have a mission/quest pretty early in the game that involves "sneaking" around to not get caught by the orcs in the camp. If you are then you have to fight and they are very tough, you may survive but with little HP left. Soooo to get to the question, I have 2 systems in place, 1 that shows you the sight radius of the orc, and another that doesn't show it and just tells you that it is in a 2 space radius. I found that if you have the sight radius activated it makes it very easy to get around. So with that said, from the point of view of someone who is playing the game, would you want to have the option to see the radius of the enemy? Or would you not want to because it makes it too easy? I have it set so you can choose either one.. but would not seeing the radius make it too hard? Sorry for the long explanation and Thank you for the opinions!

System with sight active:

As you can see, with the radius active.. it makes seeing where the enemy will attack very noticeable.

System without the sight:

With this one in the editor you can see the radius but there is not the shadow radius you see in game.

Again, sorry if this is not the right spot for this question.. I was looking at all the forum categories and I thought this one was the best for this type of question.

It looks to me like the orcs don't move around, so the only challenge is finding the right path to take without getting spotted.  You are right that showing the radius just makes it into a silly "don't step on the shadowed tiles" activity.  However, in stealth sequences, most players are usually used to a line of sight rather than a radius.  So what I would recommend is showing the radius only for the first orc (and to make it really clear to the player, make sure that orc's radius is isolated from all other orcs' radii).

Have a tree or something nearby to create that 2-tile-radius "shadow" over the orc and have one character explicitly say something like "See that shadow?  That's about the radius orcs can sense us in.  If we can stay farther away from them than that, we can sneak by!"

This will allow the player to get the correct visual scale in their minds, but they'll have to apply it in their own minds for the rest of the sequence.  It becomes a challenging puzzle without feeling unfair.

Oh man, I have never thought of this but now that you say it , it's a very good idea, i'll get started on making that and then I'll test it, I thank you for the help! It really did help me because I was worried it would be too easy and take away from the experience :) Thank you very much, I really do appreciate it :D

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
