I've been using this a lot. Great improvement over the default behavior.

It's too bad the paid programmers can't be as thoughtful...

Updated it again, changing the "separateLayers" param into "layerType", that allows 3 values:

0 = draw the full map

1 = draw two files - upper and lower layers

2 = draw 4 files - lower ground, upper ground, lower layer and upper layer.

Shadows are only drawn when this param is on type 0 or 1 and the drawAutoShadows param is true.

Looking forward to that update that includes events ^^

Thank you so much for this.

Would it be possible to include things like screen tint/weather as well?

or option to draw the map as it is shown at the game...

so it will be compatible with any parallax / overlay / fog / any visual things etc plugins.

I wouldn't mind just a single image if you don't have the time for separate layers. I hope I'm not asking too much!

A single image can be done, but to separate into layers, I won't be able to include the effect of other plugins (unless I add compatibility patches for them)

Sorry to sound like a newbie, but what makes this different from the one provided with MV?

The MV default generates a zoomed out mapshot. My plugin uses the real size.

The default behavior is to reduce the size of the image by 50% iirc. Baffling. They haven't "fixed" it in an update yet so I assume it is a conscious design decision, for what I have no idea.

i think they made that feature not for parallax mapping but for 'sharing' screenshot of map in forum / etc.

not most people can resize picture using photoshop / gimp. so they decide to do that automatically...

I gather scaling every 48x48 tile down to 32x32 in the editor's tile viewer on the left-hand side was also a conscious design decision. I can only speculate as to why that would be >_>

If that is their actual reasoning then they designed for the wrong scenario. I'm aware the userbase can be very young and lacks technical competence but if you can install and use RPGMaker, I think you can resize an image. Which doesn't require a full image editing suite like PS or gimp. In all likelihood you would learn to do that on your own before ever touching something like RPGM.

Not arguing with you per se, just the hypothetical reasoning of it.

well... the part of the slogan is simple enough for a child... and i think not every child who can install and use RPGMaker can resize image. :D . some of the new generation children do have aptitude to technology. so some of them might know how to resize image and even do some more amazing thing with computer... but... lots of today children is the type that goes to RM first then learn the other things that support it later such as image resizing, editing, etc... ("goes for fun" first then learn how to "increase the fun" in the process)

my child at least is like that... lol. he only want to learn when he know it's neccessary to increase the fun or else he will just imerse himself in the fun :D :D :D .

the developer perhaps want to accomodate to part of the customer base which cannot do that. there's also customer who's not a children but didn't have the ability to do so. the proof? the fact that some people is asking some graphic author to 'convert' it to MV format (icon, faceset, charset, etc).

which is basically resizing job :D .

at least that's what i think.

also... resizing without any external program and just use windows? is there any way to do that?

i know windows have paint... but i think its hard to resize using that. btw i use windows 7

maybe it's a new feature in windows 8 or 10??  just curious.... since i got upgrade offer to windows 10. but still hestitant because i'm affraid of some program compatibility.

I remember I was doing internet searches on Netscape with school computers with the rest of my class as early as 12. A google search could lead you to web apps that will resize an image for you, don't even have to install anything and simple enough for a child to use.

Ultimately it is kind of moot because I think every type of user can be accommodated without hindering anyone's experience in this particular case. Just include a simple check box before output. A choice between full resolution and downsize would be enough. Simple enough to avoid confusing children and providing the one thing advanced users actually want.

Windows has natively had a means to resize images through Paint as far back as Windows 95 afaik. I never used 3.1 so I'm not sure beyond that.
