Make your own unique character known to the whole community!

About

Thanks to the Character Generator tool for RPG Maker VX Ace and MV, there are a plethora of options at your disposal to create a genuinely unique and interesting character.

For this contest, we want you to share your original creation - including their personal background!


You may use RPG Maker VX Ace or RPG Maker MV for this contest.

Post your original character here for RPG Maker MV and here for RPG Maker VX-Ace.


Prize

A new event-badge will be given to all participants.


●For winners●

- A forum event-badge which is customized with YOUR character!

- Face/bust graphics for top 5 winners’ character will be made and released on RPG Maker Web as a free DLC.

- The bust image of the character that has the most “Likes” will be shown as the profile image of @RPGmakerweb Twitter account.​

●Details●

Submission Dates: 2018/4/10-2018/4/21

Each submission must contain the following to be considered:

1) A set of 12 frames for walking character sprite.

2) A set of 3 frames for damaged character sprite (If using RPG Maker MV).

3) A set of 54 frames for side-view battler (If using RPG Maker MV -- optional).

Condition 1: User-created / Your original resources, and allowed to use/modify/release alone/sell
Condition 2: User-created / Your original resources, but not allowed to either use/modify/release alone/sell

●How to submit●

1) Click “Upload a File” to upload 1-3 images.

2) Click “Full Image” below the images you uploaded to embed them.

3) Write required explanation using the entry template shown above.

4) Click “Post Reply” to post your original character.


●Terms and Conditions●

- You may not use resources and DLC sold in the RPG Maker Web store or via Steam.

- You may only use user-created resources that are available for modification and commercial use. Proper copyrights and/or credits must be included in the entry, as shown in the entry template.

- You can use your own resources, but you must include copyrights and/or credits following the entry template.

- You may not create a character that infringes on third party copyright or trademarks.

- You reserve the right to delete your entry even if it has already been posted and voted on.

- You may edit your work and/or the description after posting (we may contact you for confirmation if the character has changed significantly since the original posting).

- Submissions including adult materials such as extreme violence and/or nudity will not be accepted.

- You may tell your friends to “Like” your post even outside the forums (such as on your personal social media) but you may not create threads or status feeds asking for likes or promoting your entry. Please keep the forum rules on advertising in mind.

- Only one character/entry per person is allowed.

●Handling of Submissions●
- Users may use your assets (including personal background) to create their own game created with RPG Maker products and post, release, and/or sell that game.

- Solely used for the creation of your own original game, participants may edit, process, and modify the materials posted for this event.

- Applicants may not sell the RPG Maker assets themselves (even if they were processed, edited, or modified)

An applicant’s submission of an original character shall serve as an agreement to all conditions listed above. Any re-posting of the contest details must give proper credits in the description.

@Lunarea Are we allowed to use existing characters from our own games? (ie: Can I use the main protagonist from my in-progress game?)

EDIT: Also are we allowed to use Schlangan's Extended Generator, so long as we own a license for MV?

quick question, in MV the walking animation has 12 frames since its 3 for each direction. is

1) A set of 9 frames for walking character sprite.

a typo or do i need to cut something out?

It should be a brand new character, as you may want to keep your game characters unique to your projects -- as the winning entries would be released as DLC, it would give anyone permission to use that character and you probably want to keep your own protagonists a part of your game universe alone.

If the extended generator is not DLC in the RPG Maker Web store and it allows commercial use as well as use in events, that should be fine.

Game Character Hub is a DLC, so you would not be able to use it. Loose Leaf depends on their terms. If they allow commercial use and use in events, it should be ok.

That said, we do encourage you to just use the engine generator instead. There's a lot of great generator addons on the forums that could expand its usefulness, and it would make the sprite easier to integrate into others' projects.

Question though- do we have to use MV or VX Ace's generator to make the character, and does it have to be in the RTP style? I was thinking of creating my own sprites from scratch.

Edit: As well can we make a version for MV and a version for VX Ace if it's the same character and properly formatted?

You can use your own original artwork if you'd like, but please make note of step 7 on the entry template if you do.

You can make a version for MV and for Ace, but you'll need to choose one thread to enter them in (either MV or Ace).

It was a nice change and break from my game in progress to have to imagine some different character and context story. Thanks for the fun contest !

Yeah, because if you win, the faceset will be done by someone else, so your faceset wouldn't be used anyway :
