Being someone who never played any JRPG's before, I find it somewhat boring to see that the armour/clothes/equipment I find in a game do not change how your character looks when equipped.

This breaks some of the immersion I have in a game and decreases the amount of customization I would like my game to have.

Are there any scripts  that add paperdolling to the game? Would it be even possible to add this feature in with scripting?

I did take a look at the giant list of scripts available for Ace, but theres so many I may have missed a few.

Before posting this topic I did a forum search for "paperdolls" with only a few results. So I realise that some may not know what a paper-doll is..

Paperdoll's are seperate sprite sheets containing just the armour or equipment. When a character equips this item, the sprite sheet is overlaid on top of the character giving the player the illusion that the character is actually wearing something new.

I've moved this thread to RGSS3 Script Requests. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Have you looked through the Master Script List?

Thanks.

It's almost what I'm looking for, except it is able to have only one animation.

Not sure what you mean by one animation, the game default walking animation?

Then yes, for a custom script i doubt you can find one that support animations that's none default to the game engine.

Can't blame them not supporting anything not included by the default game engine too, script writers are not sages, they can't predict what other custom scripts do. ;)

Yes I meant other character animations, dashing, casting and ect.

Looking at the script it doesn't seem like it would be impossible. Just will require someone with a better brain than mine  :(

After seeing the Eclipse Engine has paperdolling  I was a little surprised that MV didn't include it too...

There are lots of layered equip scripts out there, you just need to find them. But i doubt any will support animations other than the default. So you might need to set up a commission job to get it done in the classified forum or wait for someone interested to take up the job for free here.

And Paperdoll is not the right word. If you are referring to the old school paperdoll toys our grandparents are playing..

Then they do have those as online versions in browser games, they call those "Dress up Games" or "Cloth changing games" nowadays.

So it still has nothing to do with composite/layer graphics the normal RPG has.

As for MV, if you wish to export the games to ios/android platforms, there WILL be restrictions on what kind of custom scripts you can/can not use. So the compatibility you will get is much much lesser than VX Ace in a way. Just like XP is much more flexible than VX Ace. Newer version doesn't mean they have everything, they simply just support more platforms and using newer code engine. If you wish for something flexible, and something less similar to "JRPG", you might need to look for another game making engine to ease things up.

I've heard "paperdoll" used to mean a mouse-based inventory system where you equip items by dragging them onto your char or to boxes next to your char. Sometimes this changes your appearance in the game, but not always.

^ That's what I figured he was referring to, based on the context of the topic. Sometimes,Ike in Baldur's Gate, the "paper doll" changes appearance too.

I once looked for a script like that, but to no avail.

Like i said before, if you guys aren't looking for the built-in UI or assets of RM and its RTP, an overhaul for such project isn't going to be an easy job and a waste of the RTP sharing concept.

Enterbrain has other game making software that does what you want in an easier and wysiwyg environment.

eg GG Maker.

So why RM and not GG when GG is giving all the features you want?

Link:

http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/products/programs/gg-maker

With GG Maker’s well thought-out features, making your own game has never been so accessible until now. Utilize exceptional tools to bring out your creativity:

  • Sophisticated map editor for areas with elevation and drama, making use of dynamic lights, fog, color tints and weather.
  • Flexible artificial intelligence which gives your characters depth and interactivity.
  • Unique characters with sprite customization, allowing you to change visible clothing and equipment in-game.
  • Innovative HUD and menu editor tools for custom interfaces and heads-up displays, loading screens, menus, dialogue boxes, health, equipment, or anything your game demands.
GG maker come with Visual Editor for its user to set up Menu/Scene GUI like a graphic editing software. So i am sure you can easily make a menu to suit what you want.

It's nearly 3 years since the last post, so it is unlikely that the OP is still looking for an answer for this.
If you manage to produce something that you want to share, I suggest you post a new thread in RGSS3 Script Releases.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
