Method I use:
1. In photoshop (or any image editing software) make a page that is the exact size of your map.
Make sure the grid is set up properly to guide you.
2. Create a "Parallax" image. I do it all in photoshop itself, I do not print screen from the in-game editor.
The parallax image contains everything that is below the character.
If anything below the character on this map needs to be animated - I create a few more of the same parallax image with
the object in question animating - and have them switch using MA's animate parallax script.
3. Create a "Overlay" image for everything above the character, shadows and lighting are applied here also.
Insert this image as a "FOG" using Woratana's multiple fogs script. This will allow me to still use in-game tints
that go above the "fog graphic". Also allows me to dynamically change this overlay image, like make it move or entirely change it on the fly.
4. In the editor I only have 2 transparent tiles, one passable and one that is not. First I make the entire map passable then with the not passable tile I go
over the areas that are not passable. Don't need to go over everything that is not passable, just a border will do.
That's pretty much it.
Good luck.
