Okay so, there's more to the title than that. I've seen the forums get really (and I mean, *really*) active during this time (I bet there's more to come), and this is my first time experiencing the IGMC rush. Which is probably why I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.

So, here's my main question : are there any advanced (i.e., have been on these forums since at least last year's IGMC) members who are not taking part in the IGMC this year?

Question #2 : Are there any recent (i.e., at least one month old) members here who want to participate in the IGMC but aren't? If so, welcome to the club b(*3*)d

Question #2 : Is the busy-ness this year pretty much the same as previous years, or is it less/more?

Meanwhile

I do not intend to partake.  I did last year with a game called Earth Under Attack..  Might change my mind, but as of this minute, I do not intend to. :)

I took place last year, but due to work obligations (and my own sanity) decided to not participate this year, barring me suddenly gaining much more free time (which might happen after July 24th or so, but I'd be so far behind by then).

I've been around for a while (3 years?) Never participated in IGMC possibly because I began using RPG Maker when I was 16 and all of my games were laughed at, but this year, is my year!

I entered last year and will not be participating this year. I totally have an idea but I just do not have time this year. I still totally want to make my idea eventually because it makes me laugh.

The business I fully expected. The main difference this year is the public knew it was coming and there was a lot of build up into the start time of the contest. Last year it came out of left field. As much as I wish we could be taken my complete surprise again, that's kind of hard to do other than the first time.

I remember the whole month last year being quite busy as well. And it was rather busy following the contest as well.

I'm like a 2 month old member, but I am going to try to participate, I hardly have any idea of a game though. But I have a little experience.

I'm probably not participating this year, as last year's entry was a huge time investment and it didn't yield anything xD (yes yes, the commercial version is still being worked on but I have little free time to do so as I have a job)

Even if I change my mind, I'd enter with a tiny game.

I might just spend the month finishing my other online systems. Now that I have the online highscores system out of the way, I can concentrate on game updater and login systems :D

I'm pretty new, only a couple weeks now.

I, however, will not be entering.

It's just too new for me, I'm not skilled/experienced enough.

I also am pretty hard on myself, so I would hate myself if I submitted some junk to the contest.

No reason to waste judges time on my entry, but next year... Watch out folks.

I've been around here for a few months, I think although my experience with RPG Maker dates to years back. XD It's just that I have no time to participate and honestly, I have no ideas and I didn't prepare. DX But it will be fun to enjoy the rush around the forums and the activity. :)

I didn't feel capable of entering last year (Though in hind-sight I probably could have gotten something simple together), but I am this year. Working on an idea that has floated around in my head for a while, had to make some changes for the sake of gameplay, available tilesets, and basic logic (I have trouble with things that don't make sense, even in fiction), but it is very similar at it's core.

To anyone who feels they shouldn't enter because they are "not experienced." If that's your only reason, consider giving it a shot anyway. In my eyes the contest is not about winning or making the next best thing ever.

Yes, someone does have to win and who knows? It could be you.

But last year I was quite new to RPG Maker entirely.

The game I made was far from a masterpiece but the contest got me to do what I hand't done before. Actually make a game.

It was very basic and nothing fancy but it worked.

The question of whether I can make a game or not can never come up again. I can.

If I can get my very very rough idea of the ground, I will participate, but I don't know yet, if it is enough for a game or if I can pull it off.

I participated last year and have been around longer than that. I won't be participating this year - but only due to a conflict with my (internetless/mostly PCless) vacation lining up with the contest. Though, if the rest of my team from last year enters, I'll probably try to do SOMETHING small for their game in the few days I'll have when I get back. (because I really REALLY want to enter again and am very bummed that I can't)

Also, take Ms Littlefish's words to heart - if you are curious to enter but are scared you aren't experienced enough - try it anyway. A contest is a great way to motivate yourself into finishing something. Take advantage of that, gain the experience; it'll be worth it down the road win or lose.

As for the business - yeah I think it was pretty busy around here last year. It'll be interesting if there being another website with its own forums being the hub of the contest will change anything here. (Will people be able to upload games NOT made in RPGmaker here like they could last year, for example.)

Welcome to the club people! ^o^ *grabs enough popcorn for everyone*

I can relate to what some of you described in your posts. I've always been sort of a contest buff (especially if it's based on something I can do) and therefore, am pretty sad that I cannot participate. The main reason is that I'm already working on a game, so I didn't feel like abandoning it (even if temporarily) to work on a new one. But there's always next year! ;3

And best of luck to all of you intending to participate b( ^ 3 ^ )d

There are plenty of advanced members who are not participating. You can be quite sure that there will also be advanced members participating.
I would worry too much about it. For someone new or with only a little experience I recommend placing the following restrictions on your game:

  • Keep it simple
  • Keep it short
Make no mistake, finish the game is still hard with those restrictions.

Whatever you choose I wish you luck and fun with your game development journey ^_^
*hugs*

I want to, but I also don't wanna delay my project any further.. I have a very simple idea though, if I can finish that in a whim, I might enter.

PS: not really a contest buff either. I like being on the judging side though, used to do that a lot back on wc3.

I might do something with my legal RPG Maker 2003 unless I import a lot of stuff from my existing commercial game (graphical assets, scripts etc.)

I was here, but didn't enter, because I was really pretty new to the engine and lacked confidence in my skills.

I didn't enter this year, either, because A) I didn't know it was happening, and B) I don't have the disposable income to purchase commercial materials.

Exactly, the Judges will only judge a game for an hour, so if you have a short and very polished entry it will do much better than your long but unpolished epic.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
