Party Guests

Script by Mr. Bubble

This script allows you to have actors as guests in the party similarly to various console RPGs. A custom window is added to the menu that displays current guests in the party.

I think I understand the concept, but I'd just like to have clarification. Basically this lets you have characters temporarily enter and then leave the party? Or is it something more complicated than that?

This would be totally awesome if the guests could pop into battle randomly like those in FFIII~

Have a question. I tried a conditional branch with the script call guest_in_party?(actor_id)

What i want is that if the desired actor is a guest, then the condition applies, else it doesn't, just as a normal conditional branch.

It works when it has to check whether the actor is a guest or not, but if the actor is a guest, then the condition doesn't apply at all.

I set up my event like this:

@> Conditional Branch: Script: guest_in_party?(7)

condition....

Else

something

Is this right? or am I missing something? Because the Else condition works, but the first one doesn't.

*gasp* A bug report?! That means people are actually using my scripts.

The conditional branch is correct, the code in that script call isn't. My bad. :) I've already fixed it. Just get v1.1 from my blog again.

Edit: If anyone got v1.1 in the 35 minutes after this post was made, please get it again. I made a stealth fix.

Is there anyway to make the guests participate in the battle, and also what's the max number of guests you can have with this script?

Yeah, add them to the main party.

and also what's the max number of guests you can have with this script?
Unlimited. The Guests window in the menu is only made to display several, that's all.

Oh my bad I meant to say if its possible to make them HAVE to partake in the battle. Like if when you go into battle, your guest has to be part of the battle party and can't be removed.

Add them to the main party and don't remove them until you want them to?

Not quite sure what you're getting at. Party members are managed by the developer unless you have some kind of way to put that control into the player implemented.

Oh nevermind what i said my bad. I think that's more of an event to make a guest character have to be in the main party that partakes in battles, but not be removable. Sorry for the confusion I think i can get it now.

This can be done. While not with the script directly, you can use the script's conditional branch call to check whether a certain actor is added to the "guest pool". And then make a troop event to make the actor act randomly.

What I did was make a variable that would randomize it's number between 0 and 100. And then made a conditional branch saying that if that variable number ends up being say 25 or less (basically 1/4 or 25% chance), then have a Force Action event where the guest actor will use a specific skill.

Remember Odin/Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy VIII who'd show up in battle randomly and cut your enemies to bits? It could work like that if your "summons" were placed as party guests.

Hi Mr. Bubbles! I was wondering how to move the guest menu to another window where it just shows the guest party members because I have a bunch of guest members in the party and i want all of them to show on a seperate window rather than just 2 faces or sprites if chosed the sprite option on the main menu... so how can I do this? please help :(

Umm.. Their is one issue with this script.

The guests don't appear in the game.. or maybe I am doing some thing wrong?

What are those suppose to be, I mean what is the point.. are they like just guests with no battle no no thing

basically visual?

I do hope they could act like party member but don't appear in the party menu.

When I add an already added guest to the menu, the party members are all cleared.

Yes, this script alone basically just makes it seem like you have guest alongside all of your battle members. So, if you were to add a actor that is one of your current actor's, then it will remove that actor and place it in the guests window (Just for looks).

So, essentially you can make it seem like you have actors convoying with you and then you could use a common event and have the "Fake" actor appear as if he really were there. Make sense? Kind of like Suikoden I & 2 guest/convoy system.

Here is a picture example; (As you can see, I had Viktor and Flik place with my other party members and I added them to my convoy. So, it places them in the convoy as "Just for looks". They gain no exp or anything..
