Hey guys!

Yanfly had a really nice script for VX Ace that allowed players to swap characters during a battle:

https://yanflychannel.wordpress.com/rmvxa/core-scripts/party-system/command-party/

I think it'd be awesome to have a similar script to this one for MV! (Now I don't know if Yan plans to recreate this script for MV, but right now, he must be like the busiest person on earth!!)

Also, it'd be nice to have options such as having a cooldown on this function (like one swap per 2 turns), or on how many characters we can swap at the same time.

Thanks!

I also like this, was a really cool element I enjoyed in FFX.  Allows your game to have a larger number of characters without having to choose who is constantly in your party or having to do party A party B style split missions.

It was done even earlier in Breath of Fire, and while it was made pointless once Karn fused more and more, it was really neat back then, too! Definitely functionality I wouldn't mind having. Feels like it could build off of the equip-in-battle that we already have.

Yeah, a few games had that system. Wild Arms had it too I think.

It's so fun to play with swapping characters during a battle!

If I can jump into this suggestions & add something:

What would be really nice, too, is a row system....

Front row/Mid row/Back row, and "Bench" row (for reserve party members); with a swap feature (that sacrifices any other action, like attacking).

Front row: Bonus to attack, penalty to defence

Mid row: Normal stats, no bonus or penalties

Back row:  Bonus to defence, penalty to attack

Reserve row: Can't attack, gains half experience

I think it should be an option to make the player lose a character turn to swap or not. I'd rather have the player not lose a turn to swap a character in, but I totally understand a game designer who'd want to make this cost a turn.

I second this request. I really need this plugin to be done. I can even hire for this. It seems like I cannot use Common Events to change formation during battle via text choices, because uhm well, it's during battle.
ANY idea how I could proceed?

Well, I've found a very basic way to do it but it's not sexy at all... But it works (I haven't tested it all in situations though).

First of all, I created a skill that could only be used in battle and that had no effect except that it triggers a Common Event (you may need to have one different swap skill for each character though). In the skill design menu, look to the right where it's written "Effects", and you can choose to trigger a common event.

This common event would only open a switch (named Actor 1 Swap or something like that).

Now, in the battle events, I have an event that is triggered by the switch Actor 1 Swap. (It's the only way I found to link a skill to trigger a battle event)

Once this event starts, it asks the player (with text choices) who to swap out for. You list all the characters available, and once the player chooses who to swap for (let's say Actor 1 swaps out for Actor 2), you enter the commands to add Actor 2 to the party, and remove Actor 1 from the party. Then you close the switch. You may need a different swap skill for each character so you know who to remove from the party. I think someone made a plugin to allow more choices than the basic ones, if you have a big party.

And with Yanfly's plugin "Base Troop Events", you only have to have this event in one battle troop and it will trigger in all battles.

You can obviously add graphic effects if you want to this event...

The downside of this technique is that the character that joins the party will always be in slot four (though you could have some eventing with variables that retain the position of the other party members and make them all leave the party, then rejoin in the desired order...)

Anyway, this is not sexy, but it seems to work. Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing! There's probably a simpler way to do this... but oh well...

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a plugin!

Yeah that not sexy way you found feels like something that could work, but definitely not a very good way long term.  Glad that you found a way, however, as it means the engine can accommodate it :)

It was resolved to the OP's satisfaction. If that solution (post #8) does not fit your needs, please start a new thread here in Plugin Requests, giving as much detail as you can of what you are looking for. It is quite possible that something new has been written in the 3 years since this thread was created.

[mod]As the OP's query was resolved, I am closing this.[/mod]

Don't forget, aspiring writers: Personality isn't what your characters do, it is WHY they do it.
Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
