RMMV Path Of A Samurai - *NEW updates!*

    This week, showcasing battle background (Bamboo forest) and design for battler.

    - We've been working on 2 new tracks + new map (set in a Sakura/Zen Garden. Will post some pics soon.

    A good friend of mine happens to be a Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu

    We traveled to see him recently and filmed many of the motions and movements of this amazing martial style.

    Here's some pictures of the poses. You may notice there are a couple of fans set up on the left side, these will help the animator to understand the natural motion of the clothing type in a slight breeze! But most importantly, animators and illustrators do not tend to be experts in a martial art, so getting these perspectives recorded on video should add alot to the project!

    In addition - we made a decision to use sprite sheets in favor of Dragonbones battlers for now (Controversial choice, I know!).

    Although Dragonbones looks fantastic, I'm yet to see another project which utilizes them in a similar way that we are hoping to with Path Of A Samurai project and as the saying goes, 'better the devil you know'.

    So for now, we will be using Spritesheets for our battlers! - Any comments on that are very welcome.

    Do not worry, spritesheets will lower memory weight of the game but sprites can also be well made/done. Except they are more crafty/tedious to do, like making your animation trough pearl embroidery or mosaic tiles. But they are easy to manage.

    Nice still you have up there and like the pose. BTW, are those Nice pictures taken from your dojo?

    Hey Marquise,
    deciding between spritesheets or dragonbones with yanfly/greenkel was a difficult decision. Spritesheets just generally seem smoother.. as i said, im yet to see a project that uses dragonbones in such a way as we intend... Have you seen many instances of Dragonbones?

    The Dojo belongs to a friend actually, but those pics were filmed in a dance hall ;-)

    Having a live model like that for pose-reference is such a huge help and resource people underestimate to often so good for you guys!
    As for spritesheet vs dragonbones I think spritesheet is the wiser choice here (not seen many games using dragonbones worth mentioning).

    Loving the battleback btw.

    I can't even describe into words how beautiful this looks so far! I love how fluid it looks as well in the battle .gif.

    The project is going through some major, and I mean major changes.

    Finally, that is true Star Wars was a SF version of Hidden Fortress from Akira Kurosawa. :p Samurai in space! I still can't believe you pushed title and BGs for that spoof! ^^ You'll be loved by your supporters you... Ha ha ha

    Good news and bad news for Path of a Samurai today..

    The bad news is, we'll be closing the thread soon...
    We've reached a milestone on the design and direction of the project. Aside from moving away from the original game title, we've gone ahead and made some major changes to game play and art style, too many to list..

    We've changed the direction of the project to the point that many of the historical comments in this thread are mostly redundant.

    However, (with the blessing of the forum admins *I hope*!) There will be one last post in here, when we open the new thread -- to let people know where to find the new project post.

    But for now - I hope you like what you see and return when we launch the next iteration of the game thread. (We're planning on a kickstarter to coincide with a trailer + demo )
