So just starting this discussion because I'm curious about the percentage of our community that can code, but also because in order to do anything that isn't doable with the default software (no matter which RPG Maker engine) you need some code, either a plugin/script or something you code yourself. The thing is, there isn't script/plugins for everything, and a lot of people ask for highly specific unique systems for which there are no available public script/plugin.
To be more precise let's define what's the baseline of a coder here: someone that has enough coding knowledge to be able within the framework of RPG Maker, meaning being able to at least play with Windows, Sprites, Scenes, Managers, and Objects in general. Being able to code stand alone complex system is not required, like coding a battle system from the zero, but being able to create a 100% custom menu would be an acceptable level to discriminate between people that simply have minimal coding knowledge and people that can actually implement most of the systems they want.
So what do you think is the percentage of our community that is consider a coder by the above definition? Should we have more? Should there be a ruby/javascript community tutorial to guide people? Many things people want for their project could simply be done by them learning to code, since no one will code a custom battle system for someone else for free (all those threads in the plugins/script request section...)
