I'm using Yanfly's Class System and want to know if it would be possible to set up a game so that skills learnt are recorded tied to the character, not their active class. Which of their skills they could use would in turn be determined by their class, but would not disappear forever if the character's class was switched. They would always know these skills unless removed via an event or script call.

Would this kind of thing be possible if a game is using the script mentioned above?

skills learned is a class thing by default... and AFAIK, switching classes using yanfly's script doesn't unlearn skills so you shouldn't have any problems with losing them.

Skills are tied to the class of the actor, and are permanently kept, but will only be active/usable if the current class has access to the Skill Type.

Ah. Glad to know they don't just vanish permanently when a character's class is changed, and that they're saved to the actor.

However, what could I do if I intended to have a Skill Type available to multiple classes, but certain skills only available to particular classes with that skill type? Would there be any way to lock a skill out from being available to a class that can use it, even if the actor has learnt it?

Skills are tied to the class... so if your actor learns a skill on 1 class, even if the other class has the type, as long as it doesn't learn that skill, it still won't be usable for that class...

Example:

Fighter and Warrior both has Brawl Skill Type.

Fighter can learn Supah Fist, Warrior can not.

If fighter learned Supah Fist, then you change to warrior, the warrior still won't be able to use Supah Fist since it's the fighter class that holds Supah Fist, not warrior

Oh good. That means that so long as I can rig up the skill learning, I can set up my games how I'd like them to work.

The tricky part would be in getting more than one class to learn a skill at the same time. If it's unlocked via an event or item, it can work, but if any are learnt via leveling it would be much trickier.

I might have to just go with the player having to get a character to the correct level for each class, although I'd prefer the same skill to be available for whatever class can use it once learnt by a character in one place.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
