Persistent Message Window

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing that can be achieved by simply editing the existing plugins, or if I'd need a whole new plugin, but...
What I'm looking to do is display some text on the screen (with or without a windowskin, I'll use an image if I have to), but rather than the default behavior of the "Show Text" command, where the game stops everything until you advance through the text and close the window, I'd like for the text to remain present while I go about my business, interacting with stuff, etc., until such a time as I command it to disappear.
The closest thing I've found so far is Yanfly's Gab Window, but that only displays a single line for a finite amount of time.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I've used Victor Sant's plugin to do exactly what you are describing (there are others that do the same thing as well; I've heard Hudell's Orange Hud plugin is pretty awesome, but I don't have any experience with it):
